From Our Father to Amen: The Prayer That Shapes UsSýnishorn

Lead us not into temptation
Praying for Strength Before the Struggle
Temptation is something we all face. Even Jesus, before He ever taught the Lord’s Prayer, was led into the wilderness and tempted by the devil. He overcame every test, and because of that, He knows how hard the battle can be. Hebrews 4:15 reminds us that Jesus is not distant from our struggles—He understands them deeply.
So, when Jesus teaches us to pray, “Lead us not into temptation” (Matthew 6:13 NKJV), it’s not just a poetic phrase—it’s a heartfelt cry. It’s us recognizing that without God’s help, we are weak. Our spirits may be willing, but our flesh? It’s fragile. Jesus even told His disciples in the garden, “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation” (Matthew 26:41 NIV). He knows how quickly good intentions can fall apart.
Temptation isn’t from God. James 1:13-15 is clear—temptation comes from our own desires. It starts with a thought, an image, a moment of pride or selfishness. Like bait on a hook, it lures us in, until we’re entangled and sin is born. And when sin grows, it leads to spiritual death—separation, shame, and a broken connection with our Father.
That’s why this prayer matters so much. It’s asking God to protect us from even getting close to the edge. It’s saying, “Lord, I know my weakness. Keep me far from the traps. Don’t let me wander toward what could destroy me.”
God doesn’t tempt us, but He does allow trials. And in every trial, He provides a way out (1 Corinthians 10:13). That’s His promise. He gives us the sword of the Spirit—His Word—as our weapon. But we need to be prepared. Memorize Scripture. Store it in your heart (Psalm 119:11). When temptation whispers, fight back with truth.
Let’s be honest—we’re not always alert. We think we’ve got it under control. That’s exactly when we need to pray this prayer most. Because victory over temptation doesn’t start in the moment of struggle—it begins with a heart surrendered in advance.
So today, pray boldly: “Father, lead me not into temptation. Keep my heart close. Keep my steps steady. And when I face the fight, help me to stand in Your strength, not my own.”
You are not alone in the battle. Jesus has gone before you, and He walks with you still.
About this Plan

In Matthew chapter 6, Jesus gives us a model for prayer. This beautiful prayer, known as The Lord’s Prayer, begins with a worshipful "Our Father", reminding us of our close and loving relationship with God, and ends with "Amen" or “so be it”— a bold declaration of faith, trust, and surrender. As we reflect on the words our Lord has given us and the journey they take us through—worship, surrender, dependence, forgiveness, and spiritual protection—may “Amen” rise from our lips not as an ending, but as an act of worship.
