From Our Father to Amen: The Prayer That Shapes Us

DAY 1 OF 14

Our Father

Embracing the Blessings of Being God’s Child

The phrase “Our Father” is a powerful way to start the Lord’s Prayer, reminding us of our close and loving relationship with God. Calling God “Father” means we are His children, part of His family, and can approach Him with confidence, knowing He loves and cares for us. This idea is deeply rooted in the Bible, where Jesus teaches us to pray in this intimate way. Unlike an earthly father, God is perfect—always present, always listening, and always acting in love.

One of the greatest spiritual blessings we receive from our Heavenly Father is His grace. Through Jesus Christ, we are forgiven and welcomed into a relationship with God, not because of anything we have done, but because of His endless mercy. This grace brings us peace, knowing that we don’t have to earn God’s love—it’s freely given.

Another spiritual blessing is guidance. God, as our Father, doesn’t leave us to figure out life on our own. He provides wisdom through His Word, the Holy Spirit, and sometimes through other believers. When we seek Him in prayer, He helps us make the right decisions and strengthens us in difficult times.

God also blesses us with His presence. No matter what we go through, we are never alone. He walks with us through joy and pain, offering comfort and strength. His presence reassures us that we are valued and loved beyond measure.

Being God’s children also means we inherit His promises. The Bible speaks of many blessings, like eternal life, peace, and joy, which are ours through Christ. These blessings don’t depend on our circumstances but on God’s faithfulness. Even when life gets tough, we can hold onto His promises, knowing He will never abandon us.

Finally, as God’s children, we are called to reflect His love. Just as He forgives and blesses us, we are to extend that love to others. This means forgiving, helping, and sharing His message of hope with the world.

In short, calling God “Our Father” is an invitation into a deep and meaningful relationship filled with love, grace, guidance, and endless blessings. It reminds us that we are never alone and that our lives have a greater purpose in Him.

About this Plan

From Our Father to Amen: The Prayer That Shapes Us

In Matthew chapter 6, Jesus gives us a model for prayer. This beautiful prayer, known as The Lord’s Prayer, begins with a worshipful "Our Father", reminding us of our close and loving relationship with God, and ends with "Amen" or “so be it”— a bold declaration of faith, trust, and surrender. As we reflect on the words our Lord has given us and the journey they take us through—worship, surrender, dependence, forgiveness, and spiritual protection—may “Amen” rise from our lips not as an ending, but as an act of worship.
