Uncharted - Navigating the Unknown With a Trusted God

DAY 3 OF 6

DAY 3 - INVITED TO LEAVE THE FAMILIAR

While we love our comfort zones, God loves inviting us into the unknown. In the kingdom there is always more to discover about Him, yourself and the world you live in. Isn't that exciting? There is always another adventure waiting to unfold.

Often like Abraham we are prompted by faith to say yes to His next invitation. Maybe that is a new business opportunity, expecting your first child or contributing in a significant way to a ministry you love. Saying yes to that invitation and walking through that invitation is often two different things. As we say yes to one thing, we often say goodbye to another. We simply can't be in two places at the same time. Sometimes we find it hard to leave the familiar.

Hebrews 11:15-16 (MSG) is such a sobering scripture with this challenge in mind: '... If they were homesick for the old country, they could have gone back any time they wanted. But they were after a far better country than that - heaven country...' It is almost like the writer is giving us the option of choosing the easy path of returning to what is familiar or choosing God's optimal, albeit challenging path before us. It's a tough sell!

We read the story of Lot and his wife in Genesis 19:7 that had a similar struggle. From their story it is clear that they often made decisions based on what looked, felt, seemed good at the time. Looking back can be costly, it seems. It will steal the momentum of what God wants to do in the here and now. Being stuck can be deadly.

For this reason, Hebrews 12:1 encourages us to strip down and throw aside every unnecessary weight, and then to run the race before us with endurance.

Ask yourself these two questions -

* In what way is God inviting you to step out in faith?

* What will you leave behind?

Let's pray together -

Holy Spirit, you are the Spirit of Truth. As Scripture promises us, you will take us by the hand and lead us. We are not limited to our own wisdom. Help me be aware of your guidance as I embark on the unknown. Amen.

Every new age hurls us into deep uncertainty and leaves the individual with new terrain and complexities to navigate. Fortunately, we don't have to accomplish this in our own strength. Within Hebrews 11 we find people who have steered through challenging times just like we have. Discover the keys that made them successful. You, my friend, are called to be a hero of faith.
