Luke’s story takes a new turn here, as Jesus enters Jerusalem. He begins to teach about His new kingdom there, and gets more scrutiny than He has yet. The leaders challenge and reject Him, because His teachings challenge their way of living (sometimes directly). One of Jesus’ closest followers is convinced to betray Him, and Jesus is arrested and executed. The king that so many had followed dies, but He does what no one has ever done. He is resurrected after three days, and through this defeats death and offers salvation to everyone who wants to live in His new kingdom. He promises to send his Holy Spirit to His followers, and then He leaves earth, concluding the first part of Luke’s story.
