Mathew was a Jewish man who heard the heart of Jesus through the lens of Jewish customs, cultural and family traditions. Jesus invited Matthew, a tax collector, to be one of his twelve disciples. Matthew recognized that he was not just following a good teacher, but Messiah. He clearly explains the difference between living under the law of Moses contrasted with the Kingdom of Heaven, as seen in Jesus’ sermon on the Mount.
