Miraculous signs continued to be demonstrated believers in the face of rising persecution of the Church. Persecution caused the message of Jesus to spread beyond Jerusalem.  One of the most influential voices (Saul) of the early church emerged on the scene. Gentiles (anyone who is not a Jew) experienced the Holy Spirit in the same manner as the Jewish believers. Saul who would become Paul travelled with Barnabas on the first recorded missionary journey.
