July 21, 2019 - Pastor Keith Miller

We’ve been speaking the last few weeks about mountain moving faith and miracles. If you weren’t here, we encourage you to go online and listen to them. If we had to sum up in two scriptures they would be . . .
Let's look at some practical application, as seen in Mark 5.
In a large crowd - Jairus falls at Jesus feet. Who was he? A Pharisee! Do you think this was making an impression on anyone around? What were the Pharisees and how did they become one? What did he do next?
Pleaded earnestly - in the KJV the word is “besought” - literally means to “call near, - call for, intreat, pray”
With - according to Webster’s 1828 can mean ‘in the company of’, however it can also mean ‘on the side of, noting friendship or favor’.

In this instance this would be a more appropriate interpretation - what had Jairus just done? Humbled himself, and intreated or prayed, in faith, that Jesus would come with him - and Jesus did.
As we see, distractions can come up!
The devil always operates in doubt, fear, worry - and we always have a choice in that moment.
As a Pharisee Jairus would have been very familiar with this passage. And now he had a choice.
Jesus is never moved by circumstances, but we can be.

We’re commanded 365 times to not fear (includes worry, doubt, etc.)

Why would God have put it in the Bible so many times if it weren’t of the greatest importance?
Modern Christian thought plays this down and many make fun of it, saying that we are being too much by taking the Word literally, but that is how it must be taken.

God is never ok with “I just can’t help but worry”. The Bible says it’s a choice. And according to the Bible it is a life and death choice.
Jesus only brought the ones who were the strongest in their faith walkWhen it comes to prayer we cannot always rely on just any friend. We have to go to the ones we know will pray a prayer of faith and agreement with us. And that prayer has to be based on God’s Word or it is not faith. Prayers of hope will only hopefully get answered. There is never any certainty to them. Because they aren’t based on anything. Jesus never ran the devil off or performed a miracle based on “boy, I sure hope this works…”
This was not Jesus performing a miracle because He is the Son of God, this is Jesus answering a prayer of faith - Jairus chose to believe, allowing the Holy Spirit to do a mighty work through Jesus.
Notice in Mark 5:39 Jesus spoke the desired outcome. Why? Because life and death are in the power of the tongue.
Remember from two weeks ago: “Whoever says to this mountain be removed….”

How did God create everything? And God said….

How did Jesus resist the devil? He spoke the Word.

If we’re to be more like Jesus, we cannot take this seriously enough.
When we make a stand in faith we can expect others to think we’re crazy. Even other believers. Sometimes they can be the worst by unintentionally dragging you back into unbelief.

But Jesus gets the last laugh….let’s continue reading
He got to throw the naysayers out! This wasn’t done out of spite - this was done out of necessity. We live by faith. You cannot afford to surround yourself with unbelievers when you are praying for needs. Especially when it is something like the life of your child. Because be certain the devil will use any advantage you leave him.

This miracle was still all about the faith of Jairus. If Jesus had let the other mourners stay they would have started telling Jairus he was crazy, he needed to accept the situation, that it was God’s will etc. If he had his daughter would most likely have stayed dead.

But praise God Jairus kept his faith - he stood in the Gap for his family
Notice how Jesus did this - he spoke to her

And they were completely astonished - wouldn’t any of us be? Even if we truly believed we would still be amazed at the power of God.
The spiritual needs were addressed first, then the physical needsWe get so caught up sometimes looking at the natural problem that we fail to see the real issue - which is always going to be spiritual.
If satan rules the darkness of this world, then what is the Word in relation to that?
When we follow God we submit ourselves to Him - what happens when we do that?
Let's look a few things from those verses...

Sinners - one who sins

Double minded - vascillate - to waver back and forth
If you find yourself going back and forth, take time to find scriptures that cover your situation (if you need help, let us know)

Then meditate on that Word daily (this is the renewing of our minds) until God’s Word has the supreme place in your heart and in your thinking. You should get to a point where you don’t ignore the world, but you aren’t influenced by it.

Jairus didn’t ignore his daughter’s situation, but he did not allow it to influence his belief. He stood firm, based on his understanding of the Word and the ministry of Jesus. Faith only comes by hearing and hearing only comes by the Word of God.

Look at your life. Do you have victory? If not, why is that? What is holding you back? Once you can answer that the next question is What part of God’s Word speaks to this? Once you have that now you can get on the path to real change.

It has to become so real to us that we naturally confess with our mouth and believe in our heart. Without wavering.

That’s what Jairus did. And his daughter lived.
