How do you practically follow the lead of the Holy Spirit?
Part 1: The Pre-Game Ritual
1. Don’t Start with Affirmations…Start with Honesty
2. Remind Myself of Who the Holy Spirit Is and What He Does.
He Transforms Us
Galatians 5:16-25 shows us how a person who is led by the flesh changes when being led by the Spirit.
He Convicts Us
John 16:7-8 says he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment.
He Guides Us
He Empowers Us to Proclaim Christ
He Gifts Us
He Empowers Us to Worship
He Leads Us
3. Remind Myself of What the Holy Spirit Won’t Do.
He will not Force or Control me.
Why would we need self control (Galatians 5:23) or a sound mind (1 Timothy 1:7) if the Holy Spirit controlled us?
He will not endorse Sin in my life.
He will not let us Stagnate.
He will not endorse Selfishness.
He will never put you at the center of attention as he will always put Jesus at the center.
4. I Verbally put my Trust in the Lord.
Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV "I Trust in the LORD with all my heart and lean not on my own understanding; in all my ways submit to him, and he will make my paths straight."
5. I Commit to Do at least One Thing I Hear from the Spirit.
Part 2: Practice the Mechanics of Spiritual Obedience
1. Keep my Strides Short and Intentional.
The Mechanic: Keep your stride compact to keep your vertical release point consistent.
Spiritually, I walk one decision at a time. God’s Word is a lamp unto my feet, not a stadium floodlight.
The power is from my foundation.
The Mechanic: True throwing power comes from the hips and lower body, not just the arm.
Spiritually, my strength comes from my foundational root system in Christ, not my own straining.
3. Keep my arms up in praise.
The Mechanic: Keeping the ball high and the elbow elevated ensures a rapid, compact release.
Keep your hands up in active praise. Don’t let your spirit dip into a low, looping rhythm of defeat.
4. Keep momentum forward.
The Mechanic: Leaning laterally saps your power and ruins your target accuracy. You must drive the ball straight ahead.
Spiritually, do not drift sideways into distractions or old habits. Keep your momentum pressing forward.
5. Finish everything strong.
The Mechanic: The micro-adjustments at the exact moment of the wrist snap dictate the final trajectory of the ball.
Spiritually, pay attention to how you finish. Complete the tasks, conversations, acts of obedience the Spirit prompts you to do with excellent follow-through.
Part 3: Post Game Analysis (AAR: After Action Report)
Reflection on how God is moving in your life does 3 things for me.
1. Inspires Gratitude!
2. Builds my Trust in Him!
3. Shifts my Focus on His Sovereignty.
Write or voice one thing you feel, one truth, and make that feeling obedient to the truth.
Pray that truth will carry over to the next day.
