This week, we are beginning a two-part mini-series entitled “Same God”. As I prepared, the Lord led me to the book of Nehemiah 9. As I read through the chapter, He began to highlight His faithfulness to me, and I felt impressed by the Holy Spirit to share with you today about the Faithfulness of God.

The chapter begins with the children of Israel assembled with fasting, sackcloth, and dust on their heads. They have separated themselves from the foreigners and begun to confess their sin and the iniquity of their fathers. They also spent time in worship as they confessed.

Prior to this moment, Ezra had read the law to those who had returned from being exiled after the completion of the wall around Jerusalem. When they heard the words of the Law, they wept, as they realized their spiritual condition.

In this passage, we see the contrast between the faithfulness of God and the hardness of hearts in people. As the people recount their history, they see how God has remained faithful and consistent while they have repeatedly faltered and failed to walk in obedience to His ways.

There is nothing new under the sun. The same internal battles the Israelites faced in having a hard heart, rebellious ways, and general disobedience are the same battles we face today. What I want to focus on is not our issues, but God’s faithfulness.

What stood out to me in the chapter was how, in every generation, God was faithful to His promises and covenant. When they hardened their necks and weren’t mindful of His wonders, even choosing a leader to take them back to bondage, He fulfilled His word.

They were disobedient, rebellious, and even murderous in killing the prophets, and yet when they cried out to Him in distress, He sent them deliverers. In all things, He was and is faithful, just, and consistent.

God doesn’t ghost His creation. Whether in the silence of the wilderness or the drama of a miracle, His consistency is the bedrock of our reality.

His Faithfulness isn't just a mood; it’s an unchanging nature, and we see the evidence of it in the physical world.

• The Physical Sunrise: The universe is built on laws that don't suddenly break. The sun rises, and tides pull with mathematical precision.
• The Rainbow: The literal "receipt" for the promise made to Noah. The cycle of seasons, Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter are a testimony to His reliability.

Theological Truth: Because God is immutable (unchanging), His principles don't shift when your circumstances do. If you can trust the sun to rise because of His laws, you can trust His Word to stand because of His character.

I love that the text we read reveals that God’s faithfulness is a long-form documentation of Him "showing up" even when we make it difficult. What we must understand is this: God’s faithfulness is not dependent on your performance. It is unconditional.

God’s faithfulness covers our "worst-case" moments. Last week, I shared about the prodigal son; the story highlighted how the door for restoration is always left unlocked for the wanderer.

Even more so in the New Testament, Jesus became the bridge between a holy God and a messy humanity. He is the one who is the “Yes” to every promise of God made since Genesis.

All of God’s promises are fulfilled, confirmed, and guaranteed through Jesus Christ. Through Him, we are reconciled to God, receive peace, obtain redemption, find wisdom, strength, direction, and covering.

If God was faithful to the point of death on a cross, why would He abandon you in your current struggle?

Seasons in life will change, but God will not. He is the steady anchor that holds. The change may feel uncomfortable, but He will not leave you.

When life feels like I don't know who I am anymore. Remind yourself that He still calls you by the same name. His identity for you is fixed. John 1:12.

When it feels like everything you have relied on is gone." Remind yourself that He will never leave you or forsake you. Hebrews 13:15.

When you feel like you have messed up too much this time,” Remember His mercy is ‘new every morning" Lamentations 3:22-23.

When it seems like the world is getting darker," Remember the ending of the story was written by an Unchanging Author who doesn't do ‘plot twists’ that catch Himself by surprise. Isaiah 46:10-11.

He is the anchor that holds in every season of our lives. Stay grounded in Him. He is the God who turns pits into palaces, provides manna in the desert, and will cause the sun to rise tomorrow.

Fix your eyes on His unchanging nature, and you will not be moved.
