Jesus announces the king has come to Jerusalem.
Jesus came to Jerusalem as King
He was received as King
He was not the revolutionary King they hoped for
He was the King they needed.
What does it mean for us today?

The timing is intentional.
The proclamation is intentional.
The word Jesus uses for Lord was translated throughout the septuagint as κύριος and is transliterated as: "Kurios"
It was used throughout the Old and New Testaments for Yahweh (God), as a title for Kings, Rulers, and Masters.

The King has come, the new Kingdom is here.
Jesus will enter Jerusalem, not as a conquering King but as a King enters during times of peace.
"Hosanna" translates the Hebrew expression that originally was a cry for help: "Save"
He is not the King they expected.
He is the King they needed.
Jesus will offer them salvation and peace. However, it isn't going to be offered the way they expected.

This is the mighty King. The one who peacefully returned to his holy city, to once again save and deliver his people.
The people didn't understand they didn't need a revolutionary leader, they needed a humble King, willing to lay down his life for them.

Jesus was and is a King unlike any before or since.
This is not a conquering, oppressive king.
This is the God of all creation, the King of Heaven, come to that which he created, willing to endure torture, humiliation, and death to offer us the opportunity to believe in him, and to call him Lord.
He alone is deserving of your worship, and honor and homage, and allegiance.

Jesus calls for us to believe, and to put his words into practice.
How easy it is to call on the name of the King, and then when things don't go the way we expect, we abandon him.

Do you know Jesus as King and Lord?
How does your way of life reflect it?
How does your way of life reflect it?

COMMUNION: REMEMBERING WHAT CHRIST HAS DONE FOR US ON THE CROSS, AND EXPERIENCING HIS PRESENCE TODAY.
COMMUNION
We would like to invite anyone who has professed faith in Jesus to participate in receiving communion with us this morning.
Communion elements will be passed out by our ushers towards the close of service.
The bread represents the body of Christ.
The juice/cup represents the blood of Christ.

Are you ready to be baptized? In the Bible, when people come to faith in Christ, and they ask "what do I do now?" the answer is consistently baptism. In baptism, we identify with Jesus' death, burial, and resurrection as we lay down our lives in the water, and come to new life in Christ. If you believe Jesus is Lord and are ready to make that declaration in your life, sign up and we would love to baptize you.
