Born a King but Laid in a Manger - Cedric Holl

Born a King but Laid in a Manger - Cedric Holl

This message forms Part 1 of our Christmas series – Hidden in Plain Sight – highlighting the glory of Jesus compared to the humility of his incarnation. He was something, but he became nothing so that we who were nothing might become something. “For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich.” - 2 Corinthians 8:9 (NIV) Jesus is the true King, but not everybody recognised him as such. The people of Bethlehem were completely unaware of the royal presence in their midst, but those who were spiritually seeking came to find him from near and far. Even today, many people are aware of Jesus but are oblivious to his majesty and authority over our lives. We need to take a second look at Jesus and to worship him as our King and the Lord of our lives.

1. The Birth of Jesus

- Some knew, some didn’t.
- Some were ready, others weren’t.
- Some listened, others rebelled.
- Some recognized him straight away, others ignored him completely.
- Some found him worthy of gifts, others didn't bother.
2. What do the Scriptures point to?

- The reality that Jesus is coming back.
- A reminder to "Repent, for the Kingdom is near".
3. Little Jesus

- When I was small, I started my prayers with “petit Jesus”, which is “little Jesus”. But I remember one day thinking that there is nothing little about him.
- In reality, Jesus is Teacher, Saviour, King.
- Little Jesus is a cute idea, but let’s not get confused with who he really is.
Remember:

Our King in the cradle is no longer a baby!
