There were two common types of covenants in Biblical Times:

- Suzerain Covenants: were official commitments of an elected relationship between a superior party and inferior party.

- Suzerain Covenants: were official commitments of an elected relationship between a superior party and inferior party.
For many the vows become a formality of a ceremony rather than covenantal promises for a lifetime.
