Attributes of God:
Peace
1 Corinthians 14:33
John 14:27
Pastor Jerry Koller
· The word disorder is the translation of a word that means instability.
· It has to do with being unsettled or unstable.
· It also carries with it the idea of generating confusion or being out of control.
· Peace has to do with security, safety, prosperity, and happiness.
There are a number of places in Scripture where God is called the God of peace. (Rom. 15:33; 16:20, Phil. 4:9, 1 Thess. 5:23, Judges 6:24, Isaiah 9:6)
Peace is something God gives through God the Son, Jesus Christ. (see Hebrews 13:20-21)
In the Old Testament, peace is likened to the Hebrew term Shalom.
· Shalom has to do with wholeness, harmony, and completeness.
· It means a person, a situation, or a place is the way God intends for it to be.
The word leave means “to go away and leave something behind.”
· In this sense, you can say peace is a legacy, an inheritance, a gift.
Jesus leaves with us is a peace that was secured through His atoning death on the cross.
· To atone means to pay the price or to cover over sin.
The word “give” means “to give over to one's care, entrust, commit.”
There is a vertical and horizontal aspect to peace.
The peace we have been given is not the kind of peace the world offers.
· Jesus said, I do not give to you as the world gives.
3 Differences
1. The peace the world offers is temporal at best. The peace Jesus gives is everlasting.
2. The peace that the world offers looks nothing loke Shalom.
· It does not contribute to wholeness as far as believers in Jesus are concerned for it has no interest in securing peace with God.
· God uses all sorts of trials, tensions, and testing these things to help our faith grow, so that we may develop perseverance.
3. The peace the world gives does not help a person, a situation, or a place be the way God intends for it to be.
The peace Jesus leaves, and the peace He gives is unlike anything the world has to offer. No wonder why Jesus said, "Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid."
The Apostle Paul pointed out to the saints at Philippi:
The prophet Isaiah said of God:
We are challenged:
APPLICATION
1. The peace of Christ changes homes.
2. The peace of Christ changes workplaces.
3. The peace of Christ changes our places of education.
4. The peace of Christ changes relationships.
5. The peace of Christ can also change our church.

Thank You!

This email is a little late in coming, but I wanted to let you know that after many shipping delays, we were able to successfully get the shipment of donations that we had been collecting for El Ayudante! So thank you so much for the backpacks that you and your church collected oh so long ago :) . We were able to get them and use them for the students going back to school at the start of this year! It's such a blessing for these students to have access to this sort of support that helps them succeed in attending school with the tools that they need. What a huge blessing! Thank you so much for being a part of loving the people of Honduras and sharing Christ in such tangible and intentional ways! We really appreciate you! God Bless!
~Beth Mohagen, Co-director of El Ayudante

Have You Considered?

Did you know that if your bank offers online services, you can set your tithe up as a regular ‘bill payment’ through your bank? This is a convenient option to help with continuity in giving and the ability for you to tithe even when you are on vacation or miss church. It eliminates having to wonder if you turned in your offering while you were gone! If you have questions or would like more information about how to utilize this convenient option, check with your banking institution or contact the church office.
