In today’s passage – Paul was instructing the 1st Century Church
Sound doctrine and teaching can be found in the Bible – the Word of God
Paul is encouraging the early Christians to stand firm for Jesus
We are to strive after Jesus as an athlete strives for the prize
The analogy is to do godly things first – to prepare for God’s work in us – thru us – in spite of us
Paul was giving encouragement
