Fake News – False Beliefs

1. If I’m spiritual enough, I will have no pain.

- Try harder at the spiritual disciplines.
- Give up on the spiritual life altogether.

2. If I change my behavior, I’ll be changed.

Emotions follow behaviors. If you act loving, you’ll feel loving. The Bible tells us to ‘put on the new self.’ That means to behave like a loving Christian. Then you’ll feel like a loving Christian.

The Bible points out that our actions are the result of spiritual change, not the cause of it.

The very fact that we are Christians signifies that we have problems or else Jesus wouldn’t have needed to die for us.

How should we behave?

We don’t make ourselves grow, we submit to Christ, who causes us to grow.

We are co-laborers with God in working out our salvation.

There is a vast difference between self-worship and a godly examination of ourselves.
