Jesus' Identity on Trial
The healing of the man by the pool, and his instruction to take up his mat and walk on the sabbath, cause a stir amongst the Jewish religious leaders. Who was this man who broke the rules of the Sabbath.

This healing on the Sabbath put Jesus' identity on trial.
Jesus is Worthy of Honour and Worship
The religious rulers where offended that Jesus seemed to claim equality with God. He sought to remove any doubt from their mind. Jesus claimed that he is worthy to receive the equal honour with God the Father. To dishonour Jesus is to dishonour the Father.

Do you see Jesus as less than God?

Jesus has the power to give life
Just as God the Father has the power to give life, so does Jesus. All who believe in his name have already crossed over from life to death. Those who believe, already have eternal life.

Do you blelieve?
Jesus has Authority to Judge
Jesus identified himself as the Son of Man, a figure from an Old Testament prophecy about one who has all power and authority. He alone has authority to judge.

What is the verdict?
Jesus identity stood trial before the Jewish religious leaders. More important than their verdict is yours.

What is your verdict on Jesus' identity? Your response has the power of life and death.
As our life groups gather this week, we have attached our reference verse and some questions to prompt a deeper discussion and search into this week's topic.

If you are not currently part of a life group, and would like to join a small group of like minded people in fellowship and connection during the week, please contact Nick on 0417472474 to register your interest.
Life Group Discussion -Read Matthew 5:16-30
1. The Jewish religious leaders are offended by Jesus healing the man on the sabbath. Have you ever been offended by Jesus? (e.g. didn’t do what you thought he would do?)

2. Jesus was teaching the religious leaders something about himself by offending their ideas of religion. What was he teaching them?

3. What do you think Jesus may have been teaching you when you were offended by him?

4.How should we respond today to the reality that a day of judgement for all people is coming?

5. What else have you learned about Jesus from this passage?
