Recap:
If we’re going to experience peace in a pandemic (or in our every day lives) we need to understand our identity and have God as our first priority and then we need to pray – to cast all our cares on Him. When we do God promises to help guard our hearts and minds from living in fear and worry. He can bring a peace that passes all understanding. Until we live in peace, we can’t give peace. But if you’re a follower of Jesus, you are called to be a person who gives peace. Giving peace is about helping to make whole that which is broken. It’s being a carrier of peace into our broken world and helping others experience the peace of God.
Questions:
(1) Where did you feel most “caught off-guard” by the Coronavirus crisis? What has affected or bothered you the most? Why?
(2)“Uncertainty will always be with us”. How do you feel about that statement? What can you do about it?
(3)Read John 14:27 and John 16:33. What do you notice in these verses about peace? (list everything you can find) If peace is an inheritance from Jesus, what does that mean for peace in our lives?
(4)Read Philippians 4:4-7. Why is it hard to “rejoice” in difficult circumstances? What do you think it looks like to still rejoice “in the Lord” ALWAYS?
(5)This week, write up a gratitude list. All the things you can take joy in, all the things you are thankful for.
(6)In Philippians 4 it says that we can have a peace that doesn’t make sense & that peace can guard what we think and feel. Ask God to help give you that kind of peace this week. When your thinking or feeling goes sideways, bring all those emotions and thoughts to God in prayer and give it to Him. Where or why do you think you tend to struggle with that?
(7)In the Bible Project Video (see below) it talked about how peace in the Bible meant making whole what was broken. Where and what do you see that’s “broken” in the world around you, in your world, in the relationships around you? How can you bring peace to those broken things this week? Choose one and commit it to prayer and ask God to show you how to bring peace this week in that situation or relationship.
(8)God’s peace, hope and love can spread faster and further than COVID19. How can you be a carrier of that peace, hope and love this week? Choose a couple of ways to do that and commit to spreading kindness and sharing hope this week.
