HZY | BRP Week 2 - Who Is God?

DAY 5 OF 7

Our Need

When humanity stepped out of God’s will (this is referred to as sin), we became unholy (imperfect). Our culture doesn’t like the word sin. We don't often see ourselves as bad people, but sin works like a hidden cancer. What might seem like a small decision to act on our own can slowly change the way we think, live, and love. We can end up living a life that falls short of what God intended—a life of close relationship and friendship with Him.

The enemy of our soul is known in scripture as “the accuser” or satan - who tempted humanity to sin. The enemy sought to separate humanity from the presence of God. Satan’s goal is to try to stop people from worshipping God and instead try to lead people to live his way or worship him instead. The enemy can’t make us sin, he just tempts us to do so. The choice to live independently of God is ours.

So there is a problem. Due to our choice to sin, we are separated from God and sin has rendered us unholy. God is the giver of life and the definition of Holiness. There is no evil in Him. He is perfect, but we are not.

His Holiness and our unholiness cannot coexist in unity. They are completely opposite - sin separates us from God. God loves us too much to leave us eternally separated from Him. BUT how can God be in a relationship with us as sinners, without compromising His holiness? God has a solution - Himself!

God extended His purity in the person of Jesus, His only son, to pay the full price for all sin. His purity was given to fully pay for our impurity.

DAILY RECAP:

1. What stands out to you most in the verses provided?

2. We know that we aren’t perfect and are often really aware of our impurity. But Jesus replaces that with His purity. How might that change the way you see your relationship with God?

About this Plan

HZY | BRP Week 2 - Who Is God?

Jesus is both fully God and fully man. To help us understand this, we need to further our knowledge of who God is. This week, we’ll dive into what God’s nature and character are like, and explore how Jesus’ death & resurrection changed things for us forever. If you have any questions as you go through this week's plan, please reach out to one of your leaders.
