DAY 6 OF 36

Bible Study 4/30

My Story

Bible Study 4 – Part 2/3

Step 2 – Your life before you became a Christian

If you could describe your life before your salvation using two or three words, what would they be?

Typical examples:

  • Anger and confusion
  • Anger and rebellion
  • A bored and meaningless life
  • A thief and drug user
  • Selfish and greedy
  • Selfish and full of pride
  • Arrogant and bitter.

Let us use anger and confusion for this exercise.

Share with the other person how your life was before you became a Christian (20 seconds).

When you begin to share your testimony, a good sentence is: There was a time in my life when… I was full of anger and very confused." Describe this in a few sentences, more or less 20 seconds. You can say a lot in 20 seconds!

Step 3: Your conversion (20 seconds)

Then, begin sharing how you came to faith in Christ. A good sentence to use is: "But then something happened…" Remember, every person's life is unique and distinct. This means that every person's story will be unique and different.

Examples:

  • I went to church, and someone explained to me why Jesus came to earth and how it applies to my life. I realised I wanted that!
  • I woke up one night and felt emptiness and a deep desire for meaning and for the burden of my past to be removed.
  • I was alone in a hotel room, so I picked up a Bible and started reading. I came across John 1:12, which touched my heart.

This can be followed up (for example) with the following: That night, I discovered that Jesus died for me and rose from the dead. As I was reading John 1:12, I understood the words of Jesus, where He said that if I accept Him as my Lord and Saviour, He gives me the right to be His child.

Make a point of saying, 'I realised that Jesus died for me and rose from the dead.'

Step 4: Your life after your conversion (20 seconds)

Some will testify that they were immediately delivered from all desire for alcohol, etc. Others will describe how the rebellion and anger slowly started to drain away from their lives, how the feelings of confusion were resolved, and so on.

Write down your testimony according to these four steps. Use a few sentences to describe every step. Make sure that you recount it within 60 seconds. Take about 20 seconds for each of the three points of your testimony (before your conversion, your conversion, after your conversion).

Do some role-play right now in your micro-group of 3-4 people.

About this Plan

For New Followers of Jesus - 30 Bible Studies

Every day, people come to Jesus and start to follow Him. Many of them do not receive follow-up. Nobody is taking care of them. Nobody helps them grow in their relationship with Jesus or explains to them what it means to be a follower of Jesus. Short: Nobody is discipling them. This plan will help you to that with young converts.
