Psalms 75

Psalm 75
For the choir director; al tashcheth; a psalm by Asaph; a song.
1We give thanks to you, O God; we give thanks.
You are present, and your miracles confirm that.
2When I choose the right time,
I will judge fairly.
3When the earth and everyone who lives on it begin to melt,
I will make its foundations as solid as rock. Selah
4I said to those who brag, “Don’t brag,”
and to wicked people,
“Don’t raise your weapons.
5Don’t raise your weapons so proudly
or speak so defiantly.”
6The ⌞authority⌟ to reward someone does not ⌞come⌟
from the east,
from the west,
or ⌞even⌟ from the wilderness.
7God alone is the judge.
He punishes one person and rewards another.
8A cup is in the Lord’s hand.
(Its foaming wine is thoroughly mixed with spices.)
He will empty it,
⌞and⌟ all the wicked people on earth
will have to drink every last drop.
9But I will speak ⌞about your miracles⌟ forever.
I will make music to praise the God of Jacob.
10I will destroy all the weapons of wicked people,
but the weapons of righteous people will be raised proudly.

Psalms 75
75
For the music director. A psalm of Asaph. According to “Do Not Destroy.” A song.
1We thank you, God, we thank you because you are close beside us.#75:1. “Close beside us,” literally, “your name is near.” People tell about the wonderful things you have done.
2God says, “When the time I have decided comes, I will judge fairly.
3When the earth quakes, and all its inhabitants tremble, I am the one who holds it steady.#75:3. Literally, “hold firm its pillars.” Selah.
4To those who boast I say, ‘Don't boast!’ I tell the wicked, ‘Don't be proud!’#75:4 “Don't be proud”: literally, “Don't lift up the horn.”
5No, don't be proud and arrogant, insulting heaven.”#75:5. The Hebrew expressions need to be recast. Literally, the text says “You must not lift up on high your horn; you must not speak with an arrogant neck.”
6For no one, from the east to the west, or from the wilderness, should think so highly of themselves.
7God is the one who decides—who he will bring down and who he will lift up.
8For the Lord has a cup in his hand, full of bubbling wine mixed with spices. He pours it out,#75:8 In judgment. and all the wicked drink it deeply, down to the last drop.
9But I will speak about you forever. I will sing praises to the God of Jacob.
10For God says, “I will break the power of the wicked; but I will give my support to those who do what is good.”
