A Vision of Four Chariots
1Again I lifted my eyes and saw, and behold, four chariots came out from between two mountains. And the mountains were mountains of #Dan. 2:39bronze. 2The first chariot had #ch. 1:8; Rev. 6:4 red horses, the second #Rev. 6:5black horses, 3the third #ch. 1:8; Rev. 6:2white horses, and the fourth chariot dappled horses—all of them strong.#6:3 Or and the fourth chariot strong dappled horses 4Then I answered and said to #ch. 1:9the angel who talked with me, “What are these, my lord?” 5And the angel answered and said to me, #Ps. 104:4; Heb. 1:7 “These are going out to the four winds of heaven, after #ch. 3:4 presenting themselves before #ch. 4:14the Lord of all the earth. 6The chariot with the black horses goes toward #ver. 8; ch. 2:6; Jer. 1:13 the north country, the white ones go after them, and the dappled ones go toward #[ch. 9:14]the south country.” 7When the strong horses came out, they were impatient to go and #[ch. 1:10]patrol the earth. And he said, “Go, #[ch. 1:10]patrol the earth.” #[ch. 1:10]So they patrolled the earth. 8Then he cried to me, “Behold, those who go toward #[See ver. 6 above]the north country have set my Spirit at rest in #[See ver. 6 above]the north country.”
The Crown and the Temple
9And the word of the Lord came to me: 10“Take from the exiles #[ver. 14] Heldai, Tobijah, and #Neh. 7:39 Jedaiah, who have arrived from Babylon, and go the same day to the house of Josiah, the son of #2 Kgs. 25:18Zephaniah. 11Take from them silver and gold, and make a crown, #[ch. 3:5] and set it on the head of #ch. 3:1Joshua, the son of Jehozadak, the high priest. 12And say to him, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts, “Behold, the man whose name is #See ch. 3:8 the Branch: for he shall branch out from his place, and #[Matt. 16:18; Heb. 3:3]; See Eph. 2:20-22he shall build the temple of the Lord. 13#[See ver. 12 above] It is he who shall build the temple of the Lord #Ps. 21:5; Ezek. 21:27 and shall bear royal honor, and shall sit and rule on his throne. And there#6:13 Or he shall be a #Ps. 110:4; Heb. 3:1 priest on his throne, #[Hag. 2:9]and the counsel of peace shall be between them both.”’ 14And the crown shall be in the temple of the Lord as #Ex. 12:14; [Matt. 26:13; Mark 14:9] a reminder to #[ver. 10] Helem,#6:14 An alternate spelling of Heldai (verse 10) #ver. 10Tobijah, #ver. 10Jedaiah, and Hen #ver. 10the son of Zephaniah.
