The Bride’s Dream
1On my bed #Isa. 26:9 by night
I sought #ch. 1:7 him whom my soul loves;
# ch. 5:6; [John 7:34] I sought him, but found him not.
2I will rise now and go about the city,
in #Jer. 5:1 the streets and in the squares;
I will seek #[See ver. 1 above]him whom my soul loves.
I sought him, but found him not.
3 # ch. 5:7 The watchmen found me
as they went about in the city.
“Have you seen him whom my soul loves?”
4Scarcely had I passed them
when I found #[See ver. 1 above] him whom my soul loves.
I #[Job 27:6] held him, and would not let him go
until I had #ch. 8:2 brought him into my mother’s house,
and into the chamber of #[Hos. 2:5]her who conceived me.
5 # See ch. 2:7 I adjure you, #See ch. 1:5 O daughters of Jerusalem,
# See ch. 2:9 by the gazelles or the does of the field,
that you not stir up or awaken love
until it pleases.
Solomon Arrives for the Wedding
6 # ch. 8:5; [ch. 6:10; Isa. 60:8] What is that coming up from the wilderness
like #Ex. 13:21; Joel 2:30 columns of smoke,
perfumed with #ch. 4:6, 14; Matt. 2:11; John 19:39myrrh and frankincense,
with all the fragrant powders of a merchant?
7Behold, it is the litter#3:7 That is, the couch on which servants carry a king of Solomon!
Around it are #ch. 6:8 sixty #2 Sam. 23:8; 1 Chr. 11:10mighty men,
some of the mighty men of Israel,
8all of them wearing swords
and expert in war,
each with his #Ps. 45:3 sword at his thigh,
against #Ps. 91:5terror by night.
9King Solomon made himself a carriage#3:9 Or sedan chair
from the wood of Lebanon.
10He made its posts of silver,
its back of gold, its seat of purple;
its interior was inlaid with love
by #See ch. 1:5the daughters of Jerusalem.
11Go out, O #Isa. 3:16, 17; 4:4 daughters of Zion,
and look upon King Solomon,
with the crown with which his mother crowned him
on #[Isa. 62:5]the day of his wedding,
on the day of the gladness of his heart.
