Mark 7:24

In Mark 5–7, we see Jesus and the disciples “zig-zagging” back and forth across Lake Galilee. The disciples must have felt disoriented with all the movement, but Jesus was clearly in charge of their itinerary. He seems to be on a purposeful mission, and none of his encounters with people are accidental or unanticipated. This five-day series will explore some encounters, particularly Jesus’ missional words and actions.

The Lent Project is an initiative of Biola University's Center for Christianity, Culture and the Arts. Each daily devotion includes a portion of Scripture, a devotional, a prayer, a work of visual art or a video, a piece of music, and a poem plus brief commentaries on the artworks and artists. The Seven Last Words of Christ refers to the seven short phrases uttered by Jesus on the cross, as gathered from the four Christian gospels. This devotional project connects word, image, voice and song into daily meditations on these words.

Life presents so many individuals with numerous challenges. One may feel that God has called them for a special purpose but aren’t sure what to do or how God’s plan will unfold. In the Determined to Follow Jesus Bible plan readers will discover in scripture accounts where individuals were determined to follow Jesus in their uncertainties and how their obedience and faith produced victorious results. 

Inspired by ‘the toilet table’ in a popular British sitcom, this plan is themed around different tables from both modern culture and the Bible. It examines what it’s like having your feet firmly planted under God’s table. God’s table is one where all are welcomed and all can find community, joy, forgiveness, and feasting. Each daily devotion is a tale of two tables - one which doesn’t represent God’s table well, and one which strongly does. If you don’t like the table you are currently sitting at, be encouraged that God is able to turn the tables!
