The Second Plague: Frogs
1 # 8:1 Ch 7:26 in Hebrew Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go in to Pharaoh and say to him, ‘Thus says the Lord, “Let my people go, that #ver. 20; ch. 3:12, 18they may serve me. 2But if you #ch. 7:14; 9:2refuse to let them go, behold, I will plague all your country with #[Rev. 16:13]frogs. 3The Nile shall swarm with frogs that shall come up into your house and into #Ps. 105:30your bedroom and on your bed and into the houses of your servants and your people,#8:3 Or among your people and into your ovens and your kneading bowls. 4The frogs shall come up on you and on your people and on all your servants.”’” 5#8:5 Ch 8:1 in Hebrew And the Lord said to Moses, “Say to Aaron, #See ch. 7:19‘Stretch out your hand with your staff over the rivers, over the canals and over the pools, and make frogs come up on the land of Egypt!’” 6So Aaron stretched out his hand over the waters of Egypt, and #Ps. 78:45; 105:30the frogs came up and covered the land of Egypt. 7But #See ch. 7:11the magicians did the same by their secret arts and made frogs come up on the land of Egypt.
8Then Pharaoh called Moses and Aaron and said, #ver. 28, 30; ch. 9:28; 10:17, 18; [Num. 21:7; 1 Kgs. 13:6; Acts 8:24] “Plead with the Lord to take away the frogs from me and from my people, and #ver. 25-28; ch. 10:8, 24; 12:31, 32I will let the people go to sacrifice to the Lord.” 9Moses said to Pharaoh, “Be pleased to command me when #[See ver. 8 above]I am to plead for you and for your servants and for your people, that the frogs be cut off from you and your houses and be left only in the Nile.” 10And he said, “Tomorrow.” Moses said, “Be it as you say, so #ver. 22; ch. 7:17that you may know that #ch. 9:14; Deut. 33:26; 2 Sam. 7:22; 1 Chr. 17:20; Ps. 86:8; Isa. 46:9; Jer. 10:6, 7there is no one like the Lord our God. 11The frogs shall go away from you and your houses and your servants and your people. They shall be left only in the Nile.” 12So Moses and Aaron went out from Pharaoh, and Moses cried to the Lord about the frogs, as he had agreed with Pharaoh.#8:12 Or which he had brought upon Pharaoh 13And the Lord did according to the word of Moses. The frogs died out in the houses, the courtyards, and the fields. 14And they gathered them together in heaps, and the land stank. 15But when Pharaoh saw that there was a #[Eccles. 8:11] respite, he #ver. 32; ch. 7:14; 9:7, 34; 10:1hardened his heart and would not listen to them, as the Lord had said.
The Third Plague: Gnats
16Then the Lord said to Moses, “Say to Aaron, #See ch. 7:19‘Stretch out your staff and strike the dust of the earth, so that it may become gnats in all the land of Egypt.’” 17And they did so. Aaron stretched out his hand with his staff and struck the dust of the earth, and #Ps. 105:31there were gnats on man and beast. All the dust of the earth became gnats in all the land of Egypt. 18The #See ch. 7:11magicians tried by their secret arts to produce gnats, but they could not. So there were gnats on man and beast. 19Then the magicians said to Pharaoh, “This is #ch. 31:18; Ps. 8:3; Luke 11:20the finger of God.” But Pharaoh’s heart was hardened, and he would not listen to them, as the Lord had said.
The Fourth Plague: Flies
20Then the Lord said to Moses, #ch. 7:15; 9:13“Rise up early in the morning and present yourself to Pharaoh, as he goes out to the water, and say to him, ‘Thus says the Lord, #ver. 1“Let my people go, that they may serve me. 21Or else, if you will not let my people go, behold, I will send swarms of flies on you and your servants and your people, and into your houses. And the houses of the Egyptians shall be filled with swarms of flies, and also the ground on which they stand. 22But on that day #ch. 9:4; 11:7; [Mal. 3:18] I will set apart the land of Goshen, where my people dwell, so that no swarms of flies shall be there, #ver. 10; ch. 7:17that you may know that I am the Lord in the midst of the earth.#8:22 Or that I the Lord am in the land 23Thus I will put a division#8:23 Septuagint, Vulgate; Hebrew set redemption between my people and your people. Tomorrow this sign shall happen.”’” 24And the Lord did so. #Ps. 78:45; 105:31; [Isa. 7:18]There came great swarms of flies into the house of Pharaoh and into his servants’ houses. Throughout all the land of Egypt the land was ruined by the swarms of flies.
25Then Pharaoh called Moses and Aaron and said, “Go, sacrifice to your God within the land.” 26But Moses said, “It would not be right to do so, for the offerings we shall sacrifice to the Lord our God are an #[Gen. 43:32; 46:34]abomination to the Egyptians. If we sacrifice offerings #[Gen. 43:32; 46:34]abominable to the Egyptians before their eyes, will they not stone us? 27We must go #ch. 3:18three days’ journey into the wilderness and sacrifice to the Lord our God #ch. 3:12as he tells us.” 28So Pharaoh said, “I will let you go to sacrifice to the Lord your God in the wilderness; only you must not go very far away. #See ver. 8Plead for me.” 29Then Moses said, “Behold, I am going out from you and I will plead with the Lord that the swarms of flies may depart from Pharaoh, from his servants, and from his people, tomorrow. Only let not Pharaoh #ver. 15; [Jer. 42:20, 21]cheat again by not letting the people go to sacrifice to the Lord.” 30So Moses went out from Pharaoh and prayed to the Lord. 31And the Lord did as Moses asked, and removed the swarms of flies from Pharaoh, from his servants, and from his people; not one remained. 32But Pharaoh #ver. 15hardened his heart this time also, and did not let the people go.

Frogs, Gnats, Flies
1Then Adonai told Moses, “Say to Aaron: Stretch out your hand with your staff over the rivers, canals and pools, and cause frogs to come up over the land of Egypt.”
2So Aaron stretched out his hand over the waters of Egypt, and the frogs came up and covered the land.
3But the magicians did the same with their secret arts and brought up frogs over the land of Egypt.
4Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron and said, “Pray to Adonai, that He would take the frogs away from me and from my people. Then I will let the people go, so they may sacrifice to Adonai.”
5Moses answered Pharaoh, “Boast about me after I pray for you. When am I to pray for you, your servants and your people, that the frogs would be cut off from you and your houses, and remain only in the Nile?”
6“Tomorrow,” he said. So he said, “Let it happen according to your word, so that you may know that there is none like Adonai our God.
7The frogs will depart from you, from your houses, from your servants and from your people. They will remain only in the Nile.”
8After Moses and Aaron went out from Pharaoh, Moses cried out to Adonai concerning the frogs, which He had brought upon Pharaoh.
9So Adonai acted according to the word of Moses, and the frogs died out in the houses, the courts and the fields.
10They piled them together in large heaps, and the land stank.
11But when Pharaoh saw that there was relief, he hardened his heart and did not listen to them—just as Adonai had said.
12So Adonai said to Moses, “Tell Aaron, ‘Stretch out your staff and strike the dust of the earth, and it will become gnats throughout all the land of Egypt.’”
13So they did. When Aaron stretched out his hand with his staff and struck the dust of the earth, there were gnats on men and animals. All the dust of the earth became gnats throughout all the land of Egypt.
14When the magicians attempted the same with their secret arts to bring forth gnats, they could not. There were gnats on men and animals.
15So the magicians said to Pharaoh, “This is the finger of God.” But Pharaoh’s heart was hardened, and he did not listen to them—just as Adonai had said.
16Then Adonai said to Moses, “Rise up early in the morning and stand before Pharaoh. As he comes to the water say to him, This is what Adonai says: Let My people go, that they may serve Me.
17Or else, if you do not let My people go, I will send the swarm of flies on you and on your servants, on your people and into your houses. The houses of the Egyptians will be full of the swarm of flies including the ground that they stand on.
18“But on that day I will set apart the land of Goshen, where My people are dwelling—except no swarm of flies will be there—so that you may know that I, Adonai, am in the midst of the earth.
19I will make a distinction between My people and your people. By tomorrow this sign will happen.”
20Adonai did just so. A massive swarm of flies went into the house of Pharaoh and into his servant’s houses. All the land of Egypt was ruined because of the swarm of flies.
21So Pharaoh called for Moses and for Aaron and said, “Go! Sacrifice to your God—in the land.”
22But Moses said, “That would not be right. For the offerings we intend to sacrifice to Adonai our God are an abomination to the Egyptians. If we sacrifice what is an abomination to the Egyptians, wouldn’t they stone us?
23We must walk a three-day journey into the wilderness and sacrifice to Adonai our God—just as He tells us.”
24Pharaoh said, “I will let you go, so that you may sacrifice to Adonai your God in the wilderness. Only you must not go very far away. Pray for me.”
25So Moses said, “See, I am leaving you, and I will pray to Adonai that the swarm of flies will depart from Pharaoh, his servants and from his people tomorrow. However, let Pharaoh no longer deal deceitfully by not letting the people go sacrifice to Adonai.”
26Then Moses went out from Pharaoh and prayed to Adonai.
27Adonai acted according to the word of Moses, and removed the swarm of flies from Pharaoh, from his servants and from his people. Nothing remained.
28But Pharaoh hardened his heart this time also, and did not let the people go.
