Overcoming the World
1 #
John 1:12
Everyone who believes that #ch. 2:22Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and #John 8:42everyone who loves the Father loves whoever has been born of him. 2#ch. 2:5; 3:24; 4:13By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments. 3For #2 John 6; See John 14:15this is the love of God, that we #See ch. 2:3keep his commandments. And #Matt. 11:30his commandments are not burdensome. 4For #ch. 3:9; 4:4; John 16:33everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—#[1 Cor. 15:57; Eph. 6:16]our faith. 5Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes #ch. 4:15that Jesus is the Son of God?
Testimony Concerning the Son of God
6This is he who came #[ver. 8] by water and blood—Jesus Christ; not by the water only but by the water and the blood. And #John 15:26; [Acts 5:32] the Spirit is the one who testifies, because #John 14:17; 15:26; 16:13the Spirit is the truth. 7For there are three that testify: 8the Spirit and the water and the blood; and these three agree. 9#John 5:34, 36, 37; 8:17, 18If we receive the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater, for this is the testimony of God #See Matt. 3:17that he has borne concerning his Son. 10Whoever believes in the Son of God #[Rom. 8:16; Gal. 4:6; Rev. 12:17; 19:10] has the testimony in himself. Whoever does not believe God #ch. 1:10; [John 3:33] has made him a liar, #[John 5:38]because he has not believed in the testimony that God has borne concerning his Son. 11And this is the testimony, that God gave us #ch. 2:25; [ch. 4:9] eternal life, and #See John 1:4this life is in his Son. 12#[John 3:15, 36; 5:24; 6:40, 47]Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.
That You May Know
13I write #John 20:31these things to you who #John 1:12believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life. 14And this is #ch. 2:28; 3:21; 4:17the confidence that we have toward him, that #ch. 3:22; [Prov. 10:24]if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. 15And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.
16If anyone sees his brother committing a sin not leading to death, he shall ask, and #[Job 42:8; James 5:15] God#5:16 Greek he will give him life—to those who commit sins that do not lead to death. #Matt. 12:31, 32; Mark 3:29; Luke 12:10; Heb. 6:4-6; 10:26There is sin that leads to death; #[Jer. 7:16; 14:11]I do not say that one should pray for that. 17#[ch. 3:4]All wrongdoing is sin, but there is sin that does not lead to death.
18We know that #ch. 3:9everyone who has been born of God does not keep on sinning, but #John 1:18he who was born of God #John 17:12protects him, and the evil one does not touch him.
19We know that we are from God, and #[Luke 4:6; Gal. 1:4]the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.
20And we know that the Son of God has come and #[Luke 24:45] has given us understanding, so that we may know #See John 17:3; Rev. 3:7him who is true; and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and #ver. 11-13eternal life. 21Little children, #1 Cor. 10:7, 14keep yourselves from idols.

세상을 이기는 믿음
1 예수가 #또는 ‘메시아’그리스도이심을 믿는 사람은 다 하나님에게서 태어났습니다. 낳아주신 분을 사랑하는 사람은 다 그분이 낳으신 이도 사랑합니다. 2우리가 하나님을 사랑하고, 또 그 계명을 지키면, 이로써 우리가 하나님의 자녀를 사랑한다는 것을 압니다. 3하나님을 사랑하는 것은 그 계명을 지키는 것입니다. 하나님의 계명은 무거운 짐이 아닙니다. 4하나님에게서 태어난 사람은 다 세상을 이기기 때문입니다. 세상을 이긴 승리는 이것이니, 곧 우리의 믿음입니다. 5세상을 이기는 사람은 누구입니까? 예수가 하나님의 아들이심을 믿는 사람이 아니고 누구겠습니까?
아들에 관해서 증언함
6그는 물과 피를 거쳐서 오신 분인데, 곧 예수 그리스도이십니다. 그는 다만 물로써 오신 것이 아니라 물과 피로써 오셨습니다. 성령은 증언하시는 분입니다. 성령은 곧 진리입니다. 7#몇몇 사본에는 ‘하늘에서 증언하시는 세 분이 계십니다. 곧 아버지와 말씀과 성령이십니다. 이 셋은 하나입니다. 8. 땅에서 증언하는 셋이 있습니다. 곧 영과 물과 피입니다. 이 셋은 일치합니다.’증언하시는 이가 셋인데, 8곧 성령과 물과 피입니다. 이 셋은 일치합니다. 9우리가 사람의 증언도 받아들이거늘, 하나님의 증언은 더욱더 큰 것이 아니겠습니까? 하나님의 증언은 이것이니, 곧 하나님이 자기 아들에 관해서 증언하셨다는 것입니다. 10하나님의 아들을 믿는 사람은 그 증언을 자기 속에 가지고 있습니다. #다른 고대 사본들에는 ‘아들을’하나님을 믿지 않는 사람은 하나님을 거짓말쟁이로 만들었습니다. 하나님이 자기 아들에 관해서 증언하신 그 증언을 믿지 않았기 때문입니다. 11그 증언은 이것이니, 곧 하나님이 우리에게 영원한 생명을 주셨다는 것과, 바로 이 생명은 그 아들 안에 있다는 것입니다. 12그 아들을 모시고 있는 사람은 생명을 가지고 있고, 하나님의 아들을 모시고 있지 않은 사람은 생명을 가지고 있지 않습니다.
영원한 생명을 아는 지혜
13나는 하나님의 아들의 이름을 믿는 사람들인 여러분에게 이 글을 씁니다. 그것은 여러분이 영원한 생명을 가지고 있다는 것을 알게 하려는 것입니다. 14우리가 하나님에 대하여 가지는 담대함은 이것이니, 곧 무엇이든지 우리가 하나님의 뜻을 따라 구하면, 하나님은 우리의 청을 들어주신다는 것입니다. 15우리가 무엇을 구하든지 하나님이 우리의 청을 들어주신다는 것을 알면, 우리가 하나님께 구한 것들은 우리가 받는다는 것도 압니다.
16누구든지 #그, ‘자기의 형제’어떤 교우가 죄를 짓는 것을 볼 때에, 그것이 죽음에 이르게 하는 죄가 아니면, 하나님께 간구하십시오. 그리하면 하나님은, 죽을 죄는 짓지 않은 그 사람들에게 생명을 주실 것입니다. 죽을 죄가 있습니다. 이 죄를 두고 간구하라고 하는 말이 아닙니다. 17불의한 것은 모두 죄입니다. 그러나 죽음에 이르지 않는 죄도 있습니다.
18하나님에게서 태어난 사람은 누구든지 죄를 짓지 않는다는 것을, 우리는 압니다. 하나님에게서 태어나신 분이 그 사람을 지켜주시므로, 악마가 그를 해치지 못합니다. 19우리가 하나님에게서 났다는 것을 우리는 압니다. 그런데, 온 세상은 악마의 세력 아래 놓여 있습니다. 20하나님의 아들이 오셔서, 그 참되신 분을 알 수 있도록, 우리에게 이해력을 주신 것을 우리는 압니다. 우리는 그 참되신 분 곧 하나님의 아들 예수 그리스도 안에 있습니다. 이 분이 참 하나님이시요, 영원한 생명이십니다. 21자녀 된 이 여러분, 여러분은 우상을 멀리하십시오.#다른 고대 사본들에는 절 끝에 ‘아멘’이 있음
