1 Thessalonians 3

1 So when we could bear the separation no longer, we thought it best to remain behind in Athens alone,

2 and we sent Timothy, our brother and co-worker with God in proclaiming the gospel of Christ, to establish you firmly and to exhort you concerning your faith,

3 so that no one would be disturbed or unsettled by these afflictions. For you yourselves understand that we are appointed to face such trials.

4 For indeed, when we were present with you, we told you in advance that we were going to experience tribulation, and so it came to pass, as you well know.

5 For this very reason, when I could endure the uncertainty no longer, I sent to learn about the state of your faith, fearing that perhaps the one who tempts had tempted you and that our hard work might have become worthless.

Timothy’s Report of the Thessalonians’ Faith and Love

6 But now Timothy has just returned to us from you and has brought us encouraging news about your faith and love, and that you maintain good memories of us at all times, desiring earnestly to see us just as we also long to see you—

7 for this reason, brothers and sisters, amid all our trouble and affliction we have been greatly comforted regarding you, through the report of your faith.

8 For now we are truly living, if you remain standing firm in the Lord.

9 For what sufficient thanks can we possibly return to God concerning you, in view of all the exceeding joy with which we rejoice on your account in the presence of our God,

10 while we petition Him most fervently night and day that we might see you face to face and complete whatever may still be lacking in your faith?

Pauline Prayer

11 Now may our God and Father Himself, together with our Lord Jesus, direct our path to you.

12 And may the Lord cause you to grow and overflow in love toward one another and toward all people, even as we abound in love toward you,

13 so that He may strengthen your hearts to be unblemished in holiness before our God and Father when our Lord Jesus comes with all who belong to Him.
