Results of Justification
1 Therefore, having been justified* by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we boast in hope of the glory of God. 3 And not only this, but we also boast in afflictions, knowing that affliction works out endurance, 4 and endurance, tested character, and tested character, hope, 5 and hope does not disgrace us, because the love of God has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.
Reconciliation to God Through the Death of Christ
6 For while we were still* helpless, at the proper time, Christ died for the ungodly. 7 For rarely will someone die for a righteous person, though perhaps for a good person someone would even dare to die. 8 But God demonstrates His love to us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Therefore, since we have now been justified by His blood, much more shall we be saved through Him from the wrath. 10 For if while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved by His life. 11 And not only that, but we are also boasting in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation.
Death and Condemnation Through Adam, Justification and Life Through Christ
12 For this reason, just as through one man sin entered the world, and through sin came* death, and in this way death* spread to all men,* because all sinned— 13 for until the Law, sin was in the world, but sin is not charged against a person’s account* when there is no Law. 14 Nevertheless, death reigned from Adam until Moses, even over those who had not* sinned in the likeness of the transgression of Adam, who is a type of the One who was to come.
15 But the gift is not like the trespass. For if by the trespass of the one man the many died, much more did the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man Jesus Christ overflowed to the many. 16 And the gift is not like that which resulted* from the one who sinned.* For the judgment from one trespass resulted in condemnation, but the gift from many trespasses resulted in justification.* 17 For if by the trespass of the one, death reigned through the one, much more will those who receive the overflowing measure of the grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.*
18 So then, as through one trespass, condemnation came* to all men, so also through one act of righteousness, justification of life came* to all men. 19 For as through the disobedience of the one man, the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the One,* the many will be made righteous.
20 Now the Law entered in addition, in order that the trespass might increase; but where sin increased, grace overflowed* in greater measure, 21 so that, as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness, resulting in eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
