Revelation 12
12
The Woman, the Child, and the Dragon
1 And a great sign was seen in heaven:* A woman clothed with the sun and with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars, 2 and who, being pregnant, cried out, travailing and suffering to give birth.
3 And another sign was seen in heaven, and behold, a great fiery red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and on his heads were seven crowns. 4 And his tail dragged a third of the stars from heaven and cast them to the earth. And the dragon stood before the woman who was about to give birth, so that when she gave birth to her Child he might devour Him. 5 And she gave birth to a Son, a male, who is going to rule all the nations with a rod of iron, but her Child was snatched up to God and to His throne. 6 And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she had a place prepared by God,* so that there she might be sustained for one thousand two hundred and sixty days.*
Satan and His Angels Cast Out of Heaven
7 Then there was war in heaven. Michael and his angels engaged in war against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels warred back,* 8 but he had no strength, nor was a place found for them any longer in heaven. 9 And the great dragon was cast out, the ancient* serpent, who is called the devil and Satan,* the one who deceives the whole world. He was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
10 Then I heard a great voice in heaven saying, “Now the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of His Christ have come, because the accuser of our brothers has been thrown down, the one who accuses them in the presence of our God day and night. 11 And they prevailed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their life unto death. 12 For this reason, rejoice, you heavens, and those who dwell in them! Woe to the earth and to the sea, because the devil has come down to you, having great fury and knowing that he has little time!”
Satan Pursues the Woman and Engages in War with Her Children
13 And when the dragon saw that he had been cast to the earth, he pursued the woman who had given birth to the male Child.* 14 But there were given to the woman the two wings of the great eagle to fly into the wilderness, to her place where she was sustained for a time,* and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent. 15 And from his mouth, the serpent expelled water like a river in pursuit of the woman, so that she might be carried away by the torrent. 16 But the earth helped the woman, and the earth* opened its mouth and swallowed up the river that the dragon had expelled from his mouth. 17 Then the dragon was exasperated with the woman, and went away to engage in war against the rest of her children—those who keep the commandments of God and who hold to the testimony of Jesus. 18 And he stood on the sand of the seashore.
