Philippians 2
2
Spiritual Unity
1 Therefore, if there is any encouragement in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship in the Spirit, if any affections and compassions, 2 fill up my joy, so that you may be of the same mind, having the same love, united in spirit, having one mind.* 3 Do nothing from selfish ambition or from self-conceit, but in humility consider others as superior to yourselves. 4 Let each person look not only* to his own interests,* but also to the interests of others.**
The Paradigm of Christ
5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, although He existed in the form of God, did not consider equality* with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied Himself, by taking the form of a servant, being made in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
9 Therefore also, God exalted Him to the highest place and gave Him the name that is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus, every knee should bow—of those who are in heaven* and on earth and under the earth— 11 and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord,* to the glory of God the Father.
Working out of Salvation
12 Therefore, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. 13 For God is the One who works in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure.
14 Do all things without grumbling* and arguing,* 15 so that you may be blameless and pure, children of God without blemish* in the midst of a crooked and perverted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, 16 holding firmly to the word of life, so that I may have reason to boast in the day of Christ that I did not run in vain nor labour in vain.* 17 But even if I am being poured out as a drink offering on the sacrifice and service of your faith, I am glad, and I rejoice with you all. 18 And, in the same way, you also should be glad and rejoice with me.
Timothy and Epaphroditus
19 But I hope in the Lord* Jesus to send Timothy to you soon, so that I also may be in good spirits when I learn about your situations.* 20 For I have no one else of like mind who will genuinely care about your situations. 21 For they all seek their own interests,* not the interests of Jesus Christ.** 22 But you know his proven character, that as a child with his father* he has served with me for the gospel. 23 Therefore, I hope to send him immediately, as soon as I see how things go with me, 24 and I am confident in the Lord that I myself also will come soon.*
25 But I considered it necessary to send Epaphroditus to you, my brother and fellow worker and fellow soldier, and your messenger and minister to my need, 26 since he was longing for you all and was distressed because you heard that he was sick. 27 For indeed, he was sick nearly to the point of death, but God had mercy on him, and not on him only, but also on me, so that I would not have sorrow upon sorrow. 28 Therefore, I have sent him all the more eagerly, so that when you see him again, you may be glad, and I may be less worried. 29 Receive him, then, in the Lord with all joy, and hold such people in esteem, 30 because, for the sake of the work of Christ, he came near to death, risking his life so that he might fill up what was lacking in your service to me.
