The Cleansing of a Leper
Mk. 1:40-45; Lk. 5:12-16
1 And when He came down from the mountain, large crowds followed Him. 2 And behold, a leper came near and knelt in reverence before Him, saying, “Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.” 3 And stretching out His hand, He* touched him, saying, “I am willing; be made clean.” And immediately, his leprosy was cleansed. 4 And Jesus said to him, “See that you tell no one; but go, show yourself to the priest and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for an evidence to them.”
The Healing of a Centurion’s Servant
Lk. 7:1-10; Jn. 4:43-54
5 Now when He entered Capernaum, a centurion came to Him, imploring Him 6 and saying, “Lord, my servant is lying in the house paralysed, gravely tormented.” 7 And He* said to him, “I will come and heal him.” 8 But in response, the centurion said, “Lord, I am not worthy that You should come under my roof, but only say a word and my servant will be healed. 9 For I also am a man under authority,* having soldiers under me, and I say to this one, ‘Go’ and he goes, and to another one, ‘Come’ and he comes, and to my servant, ‘Do this’ and he does it.” 10 And when Jesus heard this, He marvelled, and said to those who were following Him, “Truly, I say to you, I have found no one with such great faith in Israel. * 11 And I say to you that many will come from east and west, and will recline at the table with Abraham and Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven, * 12 but the sons of the kingdom will be thrown out into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” 13 And Jesus said to the centurion, “Go; as you have believed, it will be done to you.” And the servant was healed at that hour.
Jesus Heals Many
Mk. 1:29-34; Lk. 4.38-41
14 Now when Jesus came into Peter’s house, He saw his mother-in-law lying down, having a fever. 15 And He touched her hand, and the fever left her, and she got up and began to serve Him. 16 Then when it was evening, they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed, and He cast out the spirits with a word. He also healed all those who were sick. 17 This was* to fulfil what was spoken through Isaiah the prophet, which says, “He Himself took our sicknesses, and carried our diseases.”*
The Cost of Following Jesus
Lk. 9:57-62
18 Now when Jesus saw a crowd* around Him, He gave orders to depart to the other side. 19 And a scribe came and said to Him, “Teacher, I will follow You wherever You go.” 20 But Jesus said to him, “Foxes have lurking places and birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay His head.” 21 And another of His* disciples said to Him, “Lord, grant me leave to go and bury my father first.” 22 But Jesus said to him, “Follow Me, and leave the dead to bury their own dead.”
The Calming of a Great Storm
Mk. 4:35·41; Lk. 8:22-25
23 And when He entered the boat, His disciples followed Him. 24 And behold, a great storm arose on the sea, so that the boat was being engulfed by the billows, but He Himself was asleep. 25 And they* came and woke Him, saying, “Lord, save us; we are perishing.” 26 And He said to them, “Why are you timid, O you of little faith?” Then He rose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. 27 And the men marvelled, saying, “What kind of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?”
The Healing of the Gadarene Demon-possessed Men
Mk. 5:1-20; Lk. 8:26-39
28 And when He came to the other side, to the region of the Gadarenes,* there met Him two demon-possessed men coming out from the tombs, extremely dangerous, so that no one could pass by along that way. 29 And behold, they cried out, saying, “What do You have to do with us,* Son of God? Have You come here before the proper time to torture us?” 30 Now, far away from them, there was a large herd of pigs feeding. 31 And the demons were imploring Him, saying, “If You cast us out, send us away into the herd of pigs.” 32 And He said to them, “Go.” And having gone out, they went away into the pigs, and behold, the whole herd plunged down the steep bank into the sea and perished in the waters.
33 Now those tending them fled, and going away into the city, reported everything, including the matters pertaining to those who had been demon-possessed. 34 And behold, the whole city came out to meet Jesus; and having seen Him, they implored Him that He would depart from their region.
