Hebrews 3
3
Jesus, Greater Than Moses
1 Therefore, holy brothers, partakers of a heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our confession, Jesus, 2 who was faithful to the One who appointed Him, as Moses also was in all His house. 3 For this One has been counted worthy of greater glory than Moses—to the degree that the builder of the house* has greater glory than the house. 4 For every house is built by someone, but the One who built all things* is God. 5 Now Moses was faithful in all God’s* house as a servant, for a testimony to the things that would be spoken afterwards. 6 But Christ is faithful* as the Son over God’s house, whose house we are, if we hold fast our* confidence and the boasting that comes from our* hope.*
Warning Against an Evil Heart of Unbelief
7 Therefore, just as the Holy Spirit states,
“Today, if you hear His voice,
8 do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion,
on the day of testing in the wilderness,
9 where your fathers put Me to the test by trial
and saw My works for forty years.
10 Therefore, I was vexed with that generation,
and I said, ‘They always go astray in their heart,
and they have not known My ways.’
11 As I swore in My wrath,
‘They shall not enter My rest.’ ”*
12 Watch out, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, leading you to fall away from the living God. 13 But encourage one another each day, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. 14 For we have become partakers of Christ, if indeed we hold fast the beginning of our confidence firm until the end. 15 As it is stated,
“Today, if you hear His voice,
do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.”*
16 For who, having heard, rebelled? Was it not all those who went out from Egypt through Moses? 17 And with whom was He angry for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness? 18 And to whom did He swear they would not enter His rest, but to those who disobeyed? 19 So we see that they were not able to enter on account of unbelief.
