Galatians 5
5
The Liberty Given by Christ
1 It is for freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm, therefore, and do not be entangled again in a yoke of slavery.
2 Look! I, Paul, say to you that if you become circumcised, Christ will be of no benefit to you. 3 And again* I testify to every man who becomes circumcised, that he is a debtor to keep the entire Law. 4 You have been estranged from Christ, you who are trying to be justified by the Law; you have fallen from grace. 5 For, through the Spirit, we eagerly await by faith the hope of righteousness. 6 For in Christ Jesus, neither circumcision nor uncircumcision holds any significance, but faith working through love.
7 You were running well. Who obstructed you from obeying the truth? 8 This persuasion is not from the One who calls you. 9 A little leaven leavens the entire batch of dough. 10 I have confidence in you in the Lord* that you will hold no different perspective, but the one who is troubling you will bear the penalty, whoever he may be. 11 But, brothers, if I am still preaching circumcision, why am I still being persecuted? In that case, the stumbling block of the cross has been nullified. 12 I wish that those who are upsetting you would even emasculate themselves!
13 For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use* your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh; rather, through love serve one another. 4 For the entire Law is fulfilled in one statement, namely, “You shall love your neighbour as yourself.”* 15 But if you bite and devour one another, watch out lest you be consumed by one another.
Walking by the Spirit and Aligning with the Spirit
16 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will never fulfil the desire of the flesh. 17 For the flesh desires against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh, for these are diametrically opposed to each one, with the result that you do not carry out whatever you intend. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law.
19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hostilities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambitions,* dissensions, factions, 21 acts of envy, acts of drunkenness, orgies, and things like these—of which I am telling you in advance—just as I said before, that those who practise such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self control. Against such things there is no law. 24 Now those who belong to Christ Jesus* have crucified the flesh together with its passions and desires.
25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit. 26 Let us not be conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.
