2 Timothy 2

2
Be Strong in God’s Grace
1 You, therefore, my child, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus, 2 and the things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men* who will be competent to teach others also. 3 Take part in my suffering as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. 4 No one who serves as a soldier becomes entangled in the affairs of daily life, so that he may please the one who enlisted him. 5 And if anyone likewise competes as an athlete, he is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules. 6 The farmer who works hard must be the first to receive a share of the produce.* 7 Consider what I am saying, for the Lord will grant you insight into all these things.
8 Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, the offspring of David, according to my gospel, 9 for which I suffer affliction to the point of imprisonment* as a criminal, but the word of God is not bound. 10 For this reason, I endure all things for the sake of the elect, so that they also may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory. 11 The saying is trustworthy:
For if we died with Him,
we will also live with Him;
12 if we endure,
we will also reign with Him;
if we deny Him,
He also will deny us;
13 if we are unfaithful,
He remains faithful,
for He cannot deny Himself.
Present Yourself Approved to God
14 Remind people of these things, earnestly charging them before God* not to quarrel about words—a practice that is useful for nothing* and only leads to the ruin of the hearers. 15 Endeavour earnestly to present yourself approved to God, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, correctly handling the word of truth. 16 But avoid worldly and empty discussions, for they will lead to more and more ungodliness, 17 and their teaching will spread like gangrene. Among them* are Hymenaeus and Philetus. 18 who have deviated in regard to the truth by asserting that the resurrection has already taken place, and they are subverting the faith of some. 19 However, the firm foundation of God stands, having this seal: “The Lord knows those who are His,” and “Let everyone who names the name of the Lord depart from unrighteousness.”*
20 Now in a great house, there are not only vessels of gold and silver but also of wood and clay, some for* honour and some for* dishonour. 21 Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from these things, he will be a vessel for honour, sanctified, useful to the Master, prepared for every good work.
22 Now flee from youthful desires, and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart. 23 But shun foolish and ignorant controversies, knowing that they generate quarrels. 24 And the servant of the Lord must not quarrel, but be gentle towards everyone, competent in teaching, enduring evil with patience, 25 instructing opponents* with gentleness, if perhaps God may grant them repentance, resulting in a knowledge of the truth, 26 and they may regain their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, having been captured by him for the purpose of doing* his will.
