2 Corinthians 9

The Service of Giving to the Poor Saints in Jerusalem
1 For it is needless for me to write to you about this ministry to the saints; 2 for I know your readiness, of which I boast about you to the Macedonians—that Achaia has been made ready since last year—and that your zeal has stirred up the majority of them. 3 But I have sent the brothers, so that our boasting about you may not be in vain in this matter, in order that you may be ready, just as I was saying; 4 lest somehow, if Macedonians come with me and find you unready, we—not to mention you—would be put to shame because of this confidence.* 5 Therefore, I considered it necessary to urge the brothers that they would go on ahead to you and arrange in advance your previously promised bounteous gift, so that this may be ready as a bounteous gift and not as a matter of exaction.
6 Now this is the point: The one who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and the one who sows bounteously will also reap bounteously.* 7 Each one must give* just as he has purposed in his heart, not with reluctance or under coercion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 8 And God is able to cause all grace to overflow to you, so that having all sufficiency in everything at all times, you may overflow in every good work. 9 Just as it is written:
“He has dispersed far and wide,
He has given to the poor;
His righteousness abides forever.”**
10 Now the One who supplies seed to the sower* and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. 11 As a result, you will be enriched in every way for all generosity, which, through us, is producing thanksgiving to God. 12 For the ministry of this service is not only supplying the needs of the saints, but also is overflowing through many expressions of gratitude to God. 13 Through the proven integrity of this ministry, they will glorify God for the submission that flows from your confession of the gospel of Christ and for the generosity of your contribution to them and to all. 14 And in their prayer for you, they long for you because of the surpassing grace of God upon you. 15 Thanks be to God for His inexplicable* gift!
