1 Timothy 4
4
In Later Times
1 Now the Spirit explicitly states that in later times some will depart from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons, 2 through the hypocrisy of those who speak falsehoods, who have been seared in their* own conscience, 3 who prohibit marriage* and mandate* abstinence from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving* by those who believe and know the truth. 4 For everything created by God* is good and nothing is to be rejected when received with thanksgiving, 5 for it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer.
A Good Servant of Christ Jesus
6 By putting these things before the brothers, you will be a good servant of Christ Jesus, being nourished* in the words of the faith and of the good teaching which you have closely followed. 7 But shun profane and old wives’ myths,* and train yourself for godliness. 8 For bodily exercise is profitable to some extent, but godliness is profitable in every way, because it holds promise for the present life and for the life to come. 9 The saying is trustworthy and worthy of full acceptance. 10 For to this end, we labour and strive, because we have hope in the living God, who is the Saviour of all people, especially of believers.
11 Command these things and teach them. 12 Let no one disregard your youth, but be an example for the believers in word, in conduct, in love,* in faith, in purity. 13 Until I come, give attention to reading,* to exhortation, to teaching. 14 Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was granted to you through prophecy with the laying on of hands by the council of elders. 15 Diligently apply these things, immerse yourself in them,* so that your progress may be evident to everyone. 16 Pay close attention to yourself and to the teaching. Continue in them, for by doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you.
