1 Corinthians 8

8
On Food Sacrificed to Idols
1 Now concerning the things sacrificed to idols: We know that “We all have knowledge.” Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up. 2 If anyone thinks he knows anything, he has not yet known as he ought to know. 3 But if anyone loves God,* he is known by Him.*
4 Therefore, concerning the eating of the things sacrificed to idols: We know that “An idol is nothing in the world,” and that “There is no God except one.” 5 For even if indeed there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth, as there are many gods and many lords, 6 yet to us there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things, and we for Him, and there is one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and we through Him.
7 But this knowledge is not in all persons. But some, being habituated to the idol until the present time, eat as of a thing sacrificed to idols, and their conscience being weak is polluted. 8 But food will not present us to God. Neither if we do not eat do we lack, nor if we eat do we abound. 9 But pay attention, lest somehow this privilege of yours becomes an occasion for falling to the weak ones. 10 For if someone sees you who has knowledge reclining at a meal in an idol’s temple, will not his conscience being weak be encouraged, so as to eat the things sacrificed to idols? 11 For the one who is weak is destroyed by your knowledge—the brother because of whom Christ died. 12 And so, by sinning against the brothers and beating their conscience because it is weak, you sin against Christ. 13 Therefore, if food causes my brother to sin, I will never eat meat—ever—*that I may not cause my brother to sin.
