The Resurrection of Jesus
Matt. 28:1-8; Lk. 24:1-12; Jn. 20:1-10
1 When the Sabbath ended, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome purchased aromatic spices to anoint Jesus' body.
2 Very early on the first day of the week, just after sunrise, they went to the tomb.
3 They were discussing among themselves, "Who will roll away the stone from the tomb entrance for us?"
4 Looking up, they saw that the stone—which was extremely large—had already been rolled away.
5 Entering the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side. They were alarmed.
6 He told them, "Do not be alarmed. You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid Him.
7 Now go tell His disciples and Peter: 'He is going ahead of you to Galilee. You will see Him there, just as He told you.'"
8 Trembling and bewildered, they fled from the tomb. They said nothing to anyone because they were afraid.
The Appearance of Jesus to Mary Magdalene
Matt. 28:9-10; Jn. 20:11-18
9 [[After rising early on the first day of the week, Jesus appeared first to Mary Magdalene, from whom He had expelled seven demons.
10 She went and reported this to those who had been with Him, who were mourning and weeping.
11 When they heard that Jesus was alive and that she had seen Him, they did not believe her.
12 Afterwards, Jesus appeared in a different form to the two of them while they were walking in the countryside.
13 They returned and reported this to the others, but they did not believe them either.
The Great Commission
Matt. 28:16-20; Lk. 24:36-49; Jn. 20:19-23; Acts 1:6-8
14 Later, Jesus appeared to the eleven disciples as they were eating. He rebuked them for their lack of faith and stubborn refusal to believe those who had seen Him after His resurrection.
15 He told them, "Go throughout the world and proclaim the gospel to all creation.
16 Whoever believes and is baptised will be saved, but whoever refuses to believe will be condemned.
17 These signs will accompany believers: In My name they will drive out demons, they will speak in new tongues,
18 they will handle serpents, and if they drink anything poisonous, it will not harm them. They will place their hands on sick people, and they will recover."
19 After speaking to them, the Lord Jesus was taken up into heaven and sat at God's right hand.
20 The disciples went out and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed His message through accompanying signs.]]*
Notes
9-20 Some earliest manuscripts omit the longer ending of Mark, that is, vv. 9-20
