ACT 3
3
The Healing of a Lame Beggar
1 Now Peter and John were going up to the outer courts of the temple at the designated hour of prayer, which was the ninth hour of the day, three o'clock in the afternoon.
2 A certain man who had been crippled from his mother's womb since birth was being carried, whom people placed every day at the gate of the temple complex called Beautiful, so that he could ask for alms from those who were going into the temple courts,
3 and when this man saw Peter and John about to enter the temple area, he began to ask them for alms.
4 But Peter fixed his eyes upon him, together with John, and said, "Look at us and give us your attention!"
5 The man began to fix his attention on them, expecting to receive something of value from them.
6 But Peter said, "Silver and gold I do not possess, but what I do have, this I give you—in the name and by the authority of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk!"
7 Grasping him by the right hand, he raised him up, and instantly his feet and ankles were made strong.
8 Leaping up with a spring, he stood upright and was walking around; and he entered into the temple courts with them, walking and leaping and praising God with exuberant joy.
9 All the people saw him walking around and praising God,
10 and they recognised him, realising that he was the very one who used to sit at the Beautiful Gate of the temple, asking and begging for alms. They were filled with astonishment at what had happened to him.
The Second Apostolic Preaching
11 While he held onto Peter and John, all the people ran together and rushed to them in the portico called Solomon's, overwhelmed with astonishment.
12 When he saw this gathering and response, Peter addressed the people: "Men of Israel, why do you marvel at this event? Or why are you staring at us, as if by our own personal power or godliness we have made him walk?
13 The God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, the God of our fathers and ancestors, has glorified His Servant Jesus, whom you delivered over and disowned in the presence of Pilate, when he had decided to release Him.
14 But you disowned the Holy and Righteous One, and asked that a man—a murderer—be granted to you,
15 and you killed the Originator of life, whom God raised up from the dead, of which fact we are witnesses.
16 On the ground of faith in His name—His name itself and the power it represents—has strengthened this man, whom you see with your eyes and know, and the faith that comes through Him and operates through Him has given to him this complete health before all of you who are gathered here.
17 And now, brothers and fellow countrymen, I understand that you did these things in ignorance, just as your rulers and leaders also did in the same manner.
18 But what God announced beforehand through the mouth of all the prophets, that His Christ would suffer, He has thus brought to completion in this way.
19 Therefore, repent and turn from your sins and turn back to God, for the purpose of the blotting out of your sins and transgressions,
20 so that times of refreshing and spiritual revival may come from the presence of the Lord, and that He may send forth the One who has been appointed and designated for you—Christ Jesus,
21 whom heaven must retain until the times of the restoration and reestablishment of all things, which God spoke through the mouth of His holy prophets from ancient times.
22 Moses declared, 'The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your brothers. You shall listen to Him in all matters that He says to you.
23 And it will come to pass that every soul who does not give heed to that prophet will be utterly destroyed from the people.'*
24 Indeed, all the prophets from Samuel and those who followed after him in succession, as many as have prophesied, also have announced these days and this time.
25 You are the sons of the prophets and of the covenant that God made with your fathers, saying to Abraham, 'And in your offspring all the families and nations of the earth will experience divine favour.'*
26 To you first and foremost, having raised up and brought forth His Servant, God sent Him to bless you by turning each one of you away from your wickedness and evil practices."
