On Incest and Other Vices in the Church
1 It is widely reported that sexual immorality exists among you, and it is immorality of such a kind that does not even occur among pagan Gentiles—namely, that someone is living in a sexual relationship with his father's wife.
2 Yet you have become puffed up with arrogance instead of mourning in sorrow, so that the one who has committed this act might be removed from your fellowship.
3 For I, though physically absent but present with you in spirit, have already passed judgment on the one who has perpetrated this deed, as if I were physically present with you.
4 When you are assembled together in the name of our Lord Jesus, and my spirit is with you along with the power of our Lord Jesus,
5 you are to hand this person over to Satan for the destruction of his flesh, so that his spirit may be saved on the day of the Lord.
6 Your boasting is not appropriate. Do you not realise that a small amount of leaven works its way through the entire batch of dough?
7 Clean out the old leaven so that you may be a fresh batch of dough, just as you are unleavened. For Christ our Passover lamb has been sacrificed.
8 Therefore, let us celebrate the feast, not with old leaven, nor with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of purity and truth.
9 I wrote to you in my previous letter not to associate with sexually immoral people—
10 not meaning at all the sexually immoral people of this world, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters, since then you would need to leave the world entirely.
11 But now I am writing to you that you must not associate with anyone who claims to be a believer if he is sexually immoral or greedy or an idolater or a slanderer or a drunkard or a swindler. Do not even eat with such a person.
12 For what business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not responsible for judging those inside?
13 But those outside God will judge. Remove the wicked person from among yourselves.
