I Corinthians 8

8
CHAPTER EIGHT
1Now concerning things sacrificed to idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love edifies. #Acts 10:19, 15:20; Rom. 14:3, 14
2But if anyone thinks that he knows anything, he knows nothing yet to the degree that he ought to know. #1 Cor. 13:8-9; Gal. 6:3; 1 Tim. 6:4
3But if anyone loves God, he is known by Him. #Ex. 33:12; Mat. 7:23; Gal. 4:9
4So then, concerning the eating of things sacrificed to idols, we understand that an idol in the world is nothing, and that there is no other God except one. #Deut. 4:39; Isa. 41:24 Mark 12:29; 1 Tim. 2:5
5For indeed, even if there are those which are called gods, whether in heaven or on earth, as there are many gods and many lords, #John 10:34
6Still, to us there is one God the Father, from Whom are all things, and we are in Him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by Whom are all things, and we are by Him. #Mal. 2:10; John 1:3, 13:13; Acts 2:36, 17:28; Rom. 11:36; Eph. 4:6; Phil. 2:11; Col. 1:16; Heb. 1:2
7However, not all have this knowledge. But some, with consciousness of the idol, until now eat it as a thing sacrificed to an idol, and their conscience, being weak, is defiled. #Rom. 14:14; 1 Cor. 10:28
8But meat does not commend us to God; for we do not have any spiritual advantage if we eat, nor do we come short spiritually if we do not eat. #Rom. 14:17
9But beware, lest this freedom of yours becomes a stumbling block to those who are weak. #Rom. 14:13; Gal. 5:13
10For if anyone sees you, who have knowledge, sitting to eat in an idol-temple, will not his weak conscience be emboldened so as to cause him to eat things sacrificed to idols? #1 Cor. 10:28
11And will the weak brother, for whom Christ died, perish on account of your knowledge? #Rom. 14:15
12Now when you sin against the brethren and wound their weak consciences in this way, you are sinning against Christ. #Mat. 25:40
13Therefore, if meat causes my brother to stumble, I will eat no flesh—not ever—so that I may not cause my brother to stumble. #Rom. 14:21; 2 Cor. 11:29
