1So then, my dearly loved and longed for brothers and sisters, my joy and crown, # 4:1 Rv 12:1 in this manner stand firm # 4:1 Rm 14:4; 1Co 16:13; Php 1:27; 2:2 in the Lord, dear friends.
Practical Counsel
2I urge Euodia and I urge Syntyche to agree in the Lord. 3Yes, I also ask you, true partner, # 4:3 Or true Syzygus, possibly a person’s name to help these women who have contended for the gospel at my side, along with Clement and the rest of my co-workers whose names are in the book of life. 4Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5Let your graciousness # 4:5 Or gentleness be known to everyone. The Lord is near. # 4:5 1Co 16:22; Php 1:6; Heb 10:24–25; Jms 5:8; Rv 1:7; 3:11; 22:20 6Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7And the peace of God, which surpasses # 4:7 Php 2:3 all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. # 4:7 Rm 16:7; Eph 2:6; Php 1:1,15; 1Pt 5:14
8Finally # 4:8 Or In addition brothers and sisters, whatever is true, # 4:8 Jn 8:14 whatever is honourable, # 4:8 1Tm 3:8,11; Ti 2:2 whatever is just, # 4:8 Rm 1:17 whatever is pure, # 4:8 2Co 7:11; 11:2; 1Tm 5:22; Ti 2:5; Jms 3:17; 1Pt 3:2; 1Jn 3:3 whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable #– #if there is any moral excellence # 4:8 1Pt 2:9; 2Pt 1:3,5 and if there is anything praiseworthy #– #dwell on these things. 9Do what you have learned and received # 4:9 Jd 3 and heard from me, and seen in me, and the God of peace will be with you.
Appreciation of Support
10I rejoiced in the Lord greatly because once again # 4:10 Php 1:5 you renewed your care for me. # 4:10 2Co 8:1–2; 11:9 You were, in fact, concerned about me but lacked the opportunity to show it. 11I don’t say this out of need, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I find myself. 12I know how to make do with little, and I know how to make do with a lot. # 4:12 1Co 15:58 In any and all circumstances I have learned the secret of being content #– #whether well fed or hungry, whether in abundance or in need. 13I am able to do all things through him # 4:13 Other mss read Christ who strengthens me. # 4:13 2Co 12:9; Eph 3:16; Col 1:11; 1Tm 1:12; 2Tm 4:17 14Still, you did well by partnering with me in my hardship.
15And you Philippians # 4:15 Php 1:1 know that in the early days of the gospel, # 4:15 Ac 16:6–40; Php 1:5 when I left Macedonia, # 4:15 Ac 16:9 no church shared with me in the matter of giving and receiving except you alone. 16For even in Thessalonica # 4:16 Ac 17:1 you sent gifts for my need # 4:16 Mt 6:8 several times. 17Not that I seek the gift, but I seek the profit # 4:17 Lit fruit,# 4:17 Mt 3:8; Rm 1:13; Gl 5:22 that is increasing to your account. 18But I have received everything in full, # 4:18 Php 1:5 and I have an abundance. I am fully supplied, # 4:18 Or Here, then, is my receipt for everything, I have an abundance, for I am fully supplied having received from Epaphroditus # 4:18 Php 2:25 what you provided #– #a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing # 4:18 Heb 13:21 to God. 19And my God # 4:19 Mt 27:46; Rm 1:8; Php 1:8 will supply all your needs according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. 20Now to our God and Father # 4:20 Gl 1:4; 1Th 1:3; 3:11,13 be glory for ever and ever. # 4:20 Gl 1:5; 1Tm 1:17; 2Tm 4:18; Heb 13:21 Amen. # 4:20 Rm 11:36; Rv 22:21

21Greet every saint in Christ Jesus. The brothers who are with me send you greetings. 22All the saints send you greetings, especially those who belong to Caesar’s # 4:22 Mt 22:17; Lk 20:22 household. # 4:22 Php 1:7 23The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. # 4:23 Other mss add Amen.,# 4:23 Rm 1:9
