Where To Offer Sacrifices
1The Lord told Moses 2to tell Aaron, his sons, and everyone else in Israel:
3-4Whenever you kill any of your cattle, sheep, or goats as sacrifices to me, you must do it at the entrance to the sacred tent. If you don't, you will be guilty of pouring out blood, and you will no longer belong to the community of Israel. 5And so, when you sacrifice an animal to ask my blessing,#17.5 sacrifice … to ask my blessing: See the note at 3.1. it must not be done out in a field, 6but in front of the sacred tent. Then a priest can splatter its blood against the bronze altar and send its fat up in smoke with a smell that pleases me. 7Don't ever turn from me again and offer sacrifices to goat-demons. This law will never change.
8Remember! No one in Israel, including foreigners, is to offer a sacrifice anywhere 9except at the entrance to the sacred tent. If you do, you will no longer belong to my people.
Do Not Eat Blood
The Lord said:
10 #
Gn 9.4; Lv 7.26,27; 19.26; Dt 12.5-19,23,24; 15.23. I will turn against any of my people who eat blood. This also includes any foreigners living among you. 11#He 9.22. Life is in the blood, and I have given you the blood of animals to sacrifice in place of your own. 12That's also why I have forbidden you to eat blood. 13Even if you should hunt and kill a bird or an animal, you must drain out the blood and cover it with soil.
14The life of every living creature is in its blood. That's why I have forbidden you to eat blood and why I have warned you that anyone who does will no longer belong to my people.
15If you happen to find a dead animal and eat it, you must take a bath and wash your clothes, but you are still unclean until evening. 16If you don't take a bath, you will suffer for what you did wrong.

1The Lord spoke to Moses: 2“Speak to Aaron, his sons, and all the Israelites and tell them: This is what the Lord has commanded: 3Anyone from the house of Israel who slaughters#Dt 12:5–21 an ox, sheep, or goat in the camp, or slaughters it outside the camp, 4instead of bringing it to the entrance to the tent of meeting to present it as an offering to the Lord before his tabernacle — that person will be considered guilty.#17:4 Lit tabernacle — blood will be charged against that person#Ex 22:1; Lv 20:9; Nm 35:27; Dt 19:10; Ps 55:23; Is 33:15 He has shed blood#Gn 9:6 and is to be cut off from his people.#Nm 9:13 5This is so the Israelites will bring to the Lord the sacrifices#Gn 46:1; Ex 34:25 they have been offering in the open country. They are to bring them to the priest at the entrance to the tent of meeting and offer them as fellowship sacrifices#Lv 7:11 to the Lord. 6The priest will then splatter the blood on the Lord’s altar at the entrance to the tent of meeting and burn the fat as a pleasing aroma to the Lord. 7They must no longer offer their sacrifices to the goat-demons#2Ch 11:15; Is 13:21; 34:14 that they have prostituted#Dt 22:21 themselves with. This will be a permanent statute#Gn 26:5; Ex 12:14; Lv 3:17; Nm 9:3; Dt 6:2; 8:11 for them throughout their generations.
8“Say to them: Anyone from the house of Israel or from the aliens#Gn 19:9; Ex 2:22 who reside among them who offers a burnt offering or a sacrifice 9but does not bring it to the entrance to the tent of meeting to sacrifice it to the Lord, that person is to be cut off from his people.
Eating Blood and Carcasses Prohibited
10“Anyone from the house of Israel or from the aliens who reside among them who eats any blood,#Gn 9:4; Lv 3:17 I will turn#17:10 Lit will set my face against that person who eats blood and cut him off from his people. 11For the life of a creature is in the blood, and I have appointed it to you to make atonement on the altar for#17:11 Or to ransom your lives, since it is the lifeblood that makes atonement.#Mt 26:28; Mk 14:24; Rm 3:25; 5:9; Eph 1:7; Col 1:14,20; Heb 13:12; 1Jn 1:7; Rv 1:5 12Therefore I say to the Israelites: None of you and no alien who resides among you may eat blood.
13“Any Israelite or alien residing among them, who hunts#Gn 25:27 down a wild animal or bird that may be eaten must drain its blood#Ex 29:12; Lv 17:4; Dt 12:16,24; 15:23; Ezk 24:7 and cover it with dirt. 14Since the life of every creature is its blood, I have told the Israelites: You are not to eat the blood of any creature,#Lv 3:17 because the life of every creature is its blood; whoever eats it must be cut off.
15“Every person, whether the native or the resident alien,#Lv 16:29 who eats an animal that died a natural death or was mauled by wild beasts#Ex 22:31; Lv 7:24; 22:8; Dt 14:21 is to wash his clothes and bathe with water, and he will remain unclean until evening; then he will be clean. 16But if he does not wash his clothes and bathe himself, he will bear his iniquity.”
