Tehillim (Psalms) 69
69
1Save me, O Elohim! For waters have come up to my neck.
2I have sunk in deep mud, And there is no place to stand; I have come into deep waters, And the floods overflow me.
3I am worn out from my crying; My throat is dry; My eyes grow dim As I wait for my Elohim.
4Those who hate me without a cause Are more than the hairs of my head; They are mighty who would destroy me, My lying enemies; What I did not steal, I restored.
5O Elohim, You Yourself know my foolishness; And my guilt has not been hidden from You.
6Let not those who wait for You, O Master יהוה of hosts, Be ashamed because of me; Let not those who seek You Be humbled because of me, O Elohim of Yisra’ĕl.
7Because I have borne reproach for Your sake; Shame has covered my face.
8I have become a stranger to my brothers, And a foreigner to my mother’s children;
9Because ardour for Your house has eaten me up, And the reproaches of those who reproach You have fallen on me.
10And I wept in my being with fasting, And it became my reproach.
11And when I put on sackcloth, I became a proverb to them.
12They who sit in the gate talk about me, And I am the song of the drunkards.
13But as for me, my prayer is to You, O יהוה, At an acceptable time, O Elohim. In the greatness of Your loving-commitment, Answer me in the truth of Your deliverance.
14Rescue me out of the mire, And let me not sink. Let me be rescued from those who hate me, And out of the deep waters.
15Let not a flood of waters overflow me, Nor let the deep swallow me up, Nor let the pit shut its mouth on me.
16Answer me, O יהוה, for Your loving-commitment is good. According to the greatness of Your compassion, turn to me.
17And do not hide Your face from Your servant, For I am in distress; Answer me speedily.
18Draw near to my being, redeem it; Ransom me because of my enemies.
19You Yourself know my reproach, And my shame and my confusion; My adversaries are all before You.
20Reproach has broken my heart and I am sick; I looked for sympathy, but there was none; And for comforters, but I found none.
21And they gave me gall for my food, And for my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.
22Let their table before them become a snare, And a trap to those at ease.
23Let their eyes be darkened, so as not to see; And make their loins shake continually.
24Pour out Your wrath upon them, And let Your burning displeasure overtake them.
25Let their encampments be deserted; Let no one dwell in their tents.
26For they persecute him whom You have stricken, And talk about the pain of those You have wounded.
27Add crookedness to their crookedness, And let them not enter into Your righteousness.
28Let them be blotted out of the book of the living, And not be written with the righteous.
29But I am poor and in pain; Let Your deliverance, O Elohim, set me up on high.
30I praise the Name of Elohim with a song, And I make Him great with thanksgiving.
31And this pleases יהוה more than an ox, A bull with horns and hooves.
32The humble shall see, they rejoice, You who seek Elohim, and your hearts live.
33For יהוה hears the poor, And He shall not despise His captives.
34Let the heavens and earth praise Him, The seas and all that moves in them.
35For Elohim shall save Tsiyon And build the cities of Yehuḏah. And they shall dwell there and possess it,
36And the seed of His servants inherit it, And those who love His Name dwell in it.#See Psa. 5:11; Psa. 119:132; Isa. 56:6

A Cry for Help
For the director of music. To the tune of “Lilies.” A psalm of David.
1God, save me,
because the water has risen to my neck.
2I’m sinking down into the mud,
and there is nothing to stand on.
I am in deep water,
and the flood covers me.
3I am tired from calling for help;
my throat is sore.
My eyes are tired from waiting
for God to help me.
4There are more people who hate me for no reason than hairs on my head;
powerful enemies want to destroy me for no reason.
They make me pay back
what I did not steal.
5God, you know what I have done wrong;
I cannot hide my guilt from you.
6Lord God All-Powerful,
do not let those who hope in you be ashamed because of me.
God of Israel,
do not let your worshipers be disgraced because of me.
7For you, I carry this shame,
and my face is covered with disgrace.
8I am like a stranger to my closest relatives
and a foreigner to my mother’s children.
9My strong love for your Temple completely controls me.
When people insult you, it hurts me.
10When I cry and fast,
they make fun of me.
11When I wear clothes of sadness,
they joke about me.
12They make fun of me in public places,
and the drunkards make up songs about me.
13But I pray to you, Lord, for favor.
God, because of your great love, answer me.
You are truly able to save.
14Pull me from the mud,
and do not let me sink.
Save me from those who hate me
and from the deep water.
15Do not let the flood drown me
or the deep water swallow me
or the grave close its mouth over me.
16Lord, answer me because your love is so good.
Because of your great kindness, turn to me.
17Do not hide from me, your servant.
I am in trouble. Hurry to help me!
18Come near and save me;
rescue me from my enemies.
19You see my shame and disgrace.
You know all my enemies and what they have said.
20Insults have broken my heart
and left me weak.
I looked for sympathy, but there was none;
I found no one to comfort me.
21They put poison in my food
and gave me vinegar to drink.
22Let their own feasts cause their ruin;
let their feasts trap them and pay them back.
23Let their eyes be closed so they cannot see
and their backs be forever weak from troubles.
24Pour your anger out on them;
let your anger catch up with them.
25May their place be empty;
leave no one to live in their tents.
26They chase after those you have hurt,
and they talk about the pain of those you have wounded.
27Charge them with crime after crime,
and do not let them have anything good.
28Wipe their names from the book of life,
and do not list them with those who do what is right.
29I am sad and hurting.
God, save me and protect me.
30I will praise God in a song
and will honor him by giving thanks.
31That will please the Lord more than offering him cattle,
more than sacrificing a bull with horns and hoofs.
32Poor people will see this and be glad.
Be encouraged, you who worship God.
33The Lord listens to those in need
and does not look down on captives.
34Heaven and earth should praise him,
the seas and everything in them.
35God will save Jerusalem
and rebuild the cities of Judah.
Then people will live there and own the land.
36The descendants of his servants will inherit that land,
and those who love him will live there.
