About the Book of Ruth
This book is about a woman called Ruth. She was from a country called Moab. She was not an Israelite but she married an Israelite man. #1:0 The Israelites were the descendants of Jacob, who was also called Israel. Jacob's 12 sons became the ancestors of Israel's 12 tribes. The land that God gave to them as their home was called Israel. Ruth was a good woman. She was very kind to her husband's mother, Naomi. They were very poor and Naomi was very sad. But Ruth and Naomi obeyed God.
A man called Boaz helped them and he married Ruth. God blessed Ruth and Boaz. They had children and Naomi became happy again. King David and Jesus were both descendants of Ruth. See Matthew 1:5-6; Luke 3:32.
