Reluctant to sacrifice Jonah, the sailors rowed frantically trying to return to shore, but they got nowhere. All the while, the sea was raging even wilder than before. Losing hope, they began to pray to YAHWEH and said, “Please, YAHWEH, God of Jonah, don’t let us perish on account of Jonah. And don’t hold it against us for throwing this man overboard. For you, YAHWEH, have acted in accordance with your will.” So the sailors took hold of Jonah and tossed him into the foaming sea. Then all at once, the sea stopped raging. Awestruck, the men were gripped with the fear of YAHWEH, and they made vows and offered sacrifices to Jonah’s God, YAHWEH.

In this 4-part devotional, Pastor Dylan Dodson teaches through the book of Jonah. This plan will help you see God’s faithfulness, and that no one is beyond His grace and mercy.
Jonah’s story reminds us that God’s compassion extends to both the prideful prophet and the wicked unbeliever. Despite all of Jonah’s resistance and hard-heartedness, God’s merciful message of repentance was still delivered to the Ninevites. The Ninevites' repentance shows us nothing can thwart God's plans of redemption.
Far from being some fairytale about a fish, the book of Jonah is a real story about God’s grace, compassion, and love—even toward wayward people—and his commitment to spreading his message around the world. In this four-day plan, pastor David Platt shows us God is determined to spread his Word to all the nations of the earth, and God uses his people to carry out this mission.
