2Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Thanksgiving and Prayer
3I give thanks to my God for every remembrance of you, # 1:3 Or for your every remembrance of me 4always praying with joy for all of you in my every prayer, 5because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day # 1:5 Ac 16:12–40 until now. # 1:5 1Co 9:15–18; 2Co 11:7–9; Php 4:10,16,18 6I am sure of this, that he who started a good work # 1:6 2Co 9:8; Gl 3:10 in you # 1:6 Or work among you will carry it on to completion # 1:6 2Co 7:1 until the day of Christ Jesus. 7Indeed, it is right # 1:7 Rm 1:17 for me to think this way about all of you, because I have you in my heart, # 1:7 Or because you have me in your heart and you are all partners with me in grace, both in my imprisonment # 1:7 Php 1:13–14,17–20,25,30; 2:17,24; 4:22 and in the defense # 1:7 Ac 22:1 and confirmation of the gospel. 8For God is my witness, # 1:8 Rm 1:9 how deeply I miss all of you # 1:8 1Th 3:6 with the affection of Christ Jesus. 9And I pray this: that your love # 1:9 1Co 13:1 will keep on growing # 1:9 1Co 15:58 in knowledge and every kind of discernment, # 1:9 Eph 5:17 10so that you may approve the things that are superior # 1:9–10 Rm 12:2 and may be pure # 1:10 2Pt 3:1 and blameless # 1:10 Ac 24:16; 1Co 10:32 in the day of Christ, # 1:10 Php 1:6,15 11filled with the fruit # 1:11 Mt 3:8; Gl 5:22 of righteousness # 1:11 Rm 1:17 that comes through Jesus Christ to the glory # 1:11 Lk 9:32; Jn 17:24; 2Co 3:18; 2Pt 3:18 and praise of God.
Advance of the Gospel
12Now I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that what has happened to me has actually advanced the gospel, # 1:12 Mk 13:9; Ac 21–26 13so that it has become known throughout the whole imperial guard, and to everyone else, that my imprisonment is because I am in Christ. 14Most of the brothers have gained confidence in the Lord from my imprisonment and dare even more to speak the word # 1:14 Other mss add of God,# 1:14 Lk 8:21; Jn 18:32; Ac 17:11; Heb 4:12 fearlessly. 15To be sure, some preach Christ out of envy and rivalry, # 1:15 Rm 1:29; Ti 3:9 but others out of good will. 16These preach out of love, # 1:16 1Co 13:1 knowing that I am appointed for the defense of the gospel; 17the others proclaim Christ out of selfish ambition, # 1:17 Rm 2:8 not sincerely, thinking that they will cause me trouble in my imprisonment. 18What does it matter? Only that in every way, whether from false motives # 1:18 1Th 2:5 or true, Christ is proclaimed, and in this I rejoice. Yes, and I will continue to rejoice 19because I know this will lead to my salvation # 1:19 Or vindication,# 1:19 Jb 13:16–18 through your prayers and help from the Spirit # 1:19 Gl 5:25 of Jesus Christ. # 1:19 Ac 16:7; Rm 8:9; 1Pt 1:11 20My eager expectation and hope # 1:20 Ac 23:6; 1Th 1:3 is that I will not be ashamed about anything, but that now as always, with all courage, Christ will be highly honored in my body, whether by life # 1:20 1Jn 5:12 or by death. # 1:20 Jn 8:51
Living Is Christ
21For me, to live is Christ # 1:21 Rm 14:7–9; Gl 2:19–20; Php 1:11,15; Col 2:6–3:11 and to die is gain. # 1:21 Rm 8:38–39; Php 3:7 22Now if I live on in the flesh, this means fruitful # 1:22 Mt 3:8; Rm 1:13; Gl 5:22 work # 1:22 Mk 14:6; Gl 3:10; Jms 2:14–26 for me; and I don’t know which one I should choose. 23I am torn between the two. I long to depart and be with Christ # 1:23 Rm 6:8; 2Co 4:14; 13:4–5; 1Th 4:14; 5:9–10 — which is far better # 1:23 Jn 12:26 — 24but to remain in the flesh is more necessary for your sake. 25Since I am persuaded of this, I know that I will remain and continue with all of you for your progress and joy in the faith, # 1:25 Mt 8:10; Ac 3:16; Rm 1:8; 1Co 2:5; Gl 2:16; 1Tm 1:2; Heb 4:2; Jd 3 26so that, because of my coming to you again, your boasting # 1:26 1Co 15:58 in Christ Jesus # 1:26 Rm 16:7; Eph 2:6; 1Pt 5:14 may abound.
27Just one thing: As citizens of heaven, live your life # 1:27 Ac 23:1 worthy of the gospel of Christ. Then, whether I come and see you or am absent, I will hear about you that you are standing firm # 1:27 1Co 16:13; Gl 5:1; Eph 6:13–17; Php 4:1; 2Th 2:15 in one # 1:27 Jn 11:52 spirit, in one accord, # 1:27 Lit soul contending together for the faith # 1:27 1Tm 3:9; 4:1,6; 5:8; 6:10,21 of the gospel, 28not being frightened in any way by your opponents. # 1:28 1Co 16:9 This is a sign of destruction for them, # 1:28 Mt 7:13; Rm 9:22 but of your salvation # 1:28 Ac 4:12; 2Co 7:10; Heb 5:9 — and this is from God. 29For it has been granted to you on Christ’s behalf not only to believe # 1:29 Mk 11:24; Jn 3:16; Ac 10:43; Rm 10:9; 1Pt 1:8–10 in him, but also to suffer for him, 30since you are engaged in the same struggle that you saw I had and now hear that I have.

Philippians 1
1
1From Sha'ul and Timotiyos, servants of Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach Yehoshua; To all the Kedoshim in Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach Yehoshua who are in the city of Philippi with the supervising mashgichim ruchaniyim (spiritual overseers, zekenim, mivakkerim, supervisors) and the klei kodesh (ministers), the ministering messianic shammashim.
2Chen v'chesed Hashem and shalom Hashem from Elohim Avinu and Adoneinu Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach Yehoshua.
3Modeh Ani (I thank) my G-d upon every zikaron (remembrance) of you, 4Always in every tefillah of mine on behalf of all of you, davening with simcha, making techinnah (supplication) 5In view of your deveykus Hashem, your chavrusa partnership in the Besuras HaGeulah from day one until now. 6Being convinced of this: that He who began a pe'ulah hatovah#1:6 Pp 2:13 (good work) in you, will bring that mitzvoh to completion#1:6 Ps 138:8 by Yom Hashem, the Yom Adoneinu, Moshiach Yehoshua.#1:6 Pp 1:10; 2:16 7It is in fact b'tzedek for me to have hitbonenut (profound contemplation) about you all because I hold you in my lev with hartzige (heartfelt) sincerity, both in regard to my sharsherot (prison chains) and in the apologetic hitstaddekut (defense) and vindicatory work for the Besuras HaGeulah, you being all deveykus (attachment to G-d) participators in the Chen v'Chesed Hashem given to me. 8For der Oybershter is mine eidus (G-d is my witness) how I yearn for all of you with the ahavas Moshiach Yehoshua. 9And my tefillah (prayer) is this, that your ahavah (love)#1:9 in Moshiach may yet increase more and more in profound da'as and binah, 10To help you approve the feste (excellent) things of musar (moral discipline) that matter, that you may be sincere and without michshol (stumbling block) of blame#1:10 2:15 in the Yom HaMoshiach,#1:10 1:6; 2:16 11Having been filled with the p'ri Tzedek (fruit of righteousness) through Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach Yehoshua to the kavod Hashem and His tiferet (splendor).
12I want you to have da'as, Achim b'Moshiach, that the things concerning me have fallen out to an even greater advancement#1:12 Pp 1:25 of the Besuras HaGeulah.#1:12 2Ti 2:9 13So that my sharsherot#1:13 Pp 1:7 (chains) have become a hisgalus (revelation) in Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach! In all the imperial guard and the public at large! 14And most of the Achim b'Adoneinu, having been strengthened in bitachon by my sharsherot (chains), are more readily willing to dare to fearlessly proclaim the Dvar Hashem.
15Indeed some darshanim (preachers) preach their derashot (sermons) out of a ruach that is mekanne (jealous, envious) and one of madon (strife); but some have derashot proclaiming Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach, and these darshanim have kavvanah tovah (good intention). 16These latter proclaim Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach out of a ruach of ahavah, having da'as that the purpose of my divinely destined appointment here is for the hitstaddekut (apologetic defense) of the Besuras HaGeulah. 17But those other ones preach Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach out of anochiyut#1:17 Pp 2:3 (selfishness), not with a lev tahor (pure in heart) motive, lu yetzuuyar (assuming) by means of my sharsherot#1:17 Pp 1:13-14 to stir up tzoros. 18Nu? Whether the maggidim are or are not perfect in their intent, the significant thing is that Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach is preached!
And in this I have simcha. And I will go right on having simcha! 19For, I have da'as that through your tefillos for me and through the ezrah (aid) given by the Ruach Moshiach, this will turn out for my Yeshu'ah (rescue, salvation).#1:19 Pp 1:28; 2:12; Ro 8:28 20It is my confident tikvah that in nothing I will be put to bushah (shame), but with all ometz lev#1:20 Josh 1:7 (courage, boldness) as always, even now, Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach will be magnified in my basar,#1:20 Pp 1:13 whether through Chayyim (Life) or through Mavet (Death). 21For to me to live is Moshiach#1:21 Ga 2:20 and to die is revach (gain, profit, hanaa). 22But if it means I am to go on living in the basar, this for me is p'ri for Hashem in the work of avodas kodesh ministry. What will I choose? I do not have da'as, 23I am kleir (deliberating). I am pulled two drakhim (ways) by a happy dilemma, on the one tzad (side) having the desire to depart and be with Moshiach, for this is much better.#1:23 2C 5:8 24But on the other tzad (side) to remain in the basar is more necessary for your sake. 25And having been convinced of this fact, I have da'as that I blaib (remain, continue unchanged) and will continue with all of you, for your advancement#1:25 Pp 1:12 and simcha of the#1:25 Orthodox Jewish Emunah,#1:25 cf. 1:27; 1Ti 3:9; 4:1,6; 5:8; 6:10,21; Yd 3 26With the ultimate aim that by coming to you again your glorying may abound in Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach Yehoshua.
27Only one thing: conduct in practice your torat haEzrakhut#1:27 see Pp 3:20 (citizenship) worthily of the Besuras HaGeulah of Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach. Then, whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear concerning you that you are standing like a ma'oz (fortress, bastion) in one ruach, with one neshamah, contending for the Emunah#1:27 Yd 3; Pp 4:3 of the Besuras HaGeulah. 28And, I might add, not having pachad (fear, terror) in reaction to anything as far as the mitnaggedim (the ones opposing) are concerned, which is a proof to them of their churban (destruction), but of your Yeshu'ah#1:28 Pp 1:19; 2:12 (salvation ), and this from Hashem. 29For to you it was given on behalf of Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach, not only to have emunah in him but also on behalf of him to be laden with the burden of Messianic yissurim#1:29 Pp 3:10 (sufferings), 30With you having the same struggle, which you saw in me#1:30 Ac 16:22 and now hear to be in me.#1:30 Pp 1:13
