Demons Driven Out by Jesus
1They # 5:1–20 Mt 8:28–34; Lk 8:26–39 came to the other side of the sea, to the region of the Gerasenes. # 5:1 Some mss read Gadarenes; other mss read Gergesenes 2As soon as he got out of the boat, a man with an unclean # 5:2 2Co 6:17 spirit # 5:2 Lk 11:24 came out of the tombs # 5:2 Jn 5:28 and met him. 3He lived in the tombs, # 5:3 Lk 23:53 and no one was able to restrain him anymore — not even with a chain # 5:3 Mk 15:1 — 4because he often had been bound with shackles and chains, but had torn the chains apart and smashed # 5:4 Rm 16:20; Rv 2:27 the shackles. No one was strong enough to subdue # 5:4 Jms 3:7–8 him. 5Night # 5:5 Jn 9:4 and day among the tombs # 5:5 Lk 23:53 and on the mountains, # 5:5 Mt 4:8 he was always crying out and cutting himself with stones.
6When he saw Jesus from a distance, he ran and knelt down before him. 7And he cried out with a loud voice, “What do you have to do with me, Jesus, Son # 5:7 Jn 5:19; Heb 1:2 of the Most High God? # 5:7 Ps 78:35 I beg you before God, don’t torment # 5:7 Rv 20:10 me! ” 8For he had told him, “Come out of the man, you unclean # 5:8 2Co 6:17 spirit! ” # 5:8 Lk 11:24
9 “What is your name? ” he asked him.
“My name is Legion,” # 5:9 Mt 26:53; Lk 8:30 he answered him, “because we are many.” 10And he begged him earnestly not to send them out of the region.
11A large herd of pigs # 5:11 Mt 7:6; 8:30–32; Lk 8:32–33; 15:15–16 was there, feeding # 5:11 Jn 21:15 on the hillside. 12The demons # 5:12 Other mss read All the demons begged him, “Send us to the pigs, so that we may enter them.” 13So he gave them permission, and the unclean # 5:13 2Co 6:17 spirits # 5:13 Lk 11:24 came out and entered the pigs. The herd of about two thousand rushed down the steep bank into the sea and drowned there.
14The men who tended them ran off # 5:14 Jms 4:7 and reported it in the town and the countryside, and people went to see what had happened. 15They came to Jesus and saw the man who had been demon-possessed, # 5:15 Mt 9:32,# 5:15 Mk 5:9 sitting there, dressed and in his right mind; # 5:15 1Pt 4:7 and they were afraid. # 5:15 Ps 147:11; Pr 1:7; Rv 14:7 16Those who had seen it described to them what had happened to the demon-possessed # 5:16 Mt 9:32 man and told about the pigs. 17Then they began to beg him to leave their region.
18As he was getting into the boat, the man who had been demon-possessed begged him earnestly that he might remain with him. 19Jesus did not let him but told him, “Go home to your own people, and report to them how much the Lord # 5:19 Col 4:1; Jd 5 has done # 5:19 Lk 1:25; 8:39; Ac 15:17; Rm 9:28 for you and how he has had mercy on you.” 20So he went out and began to proclaim # 5:20 Mk 1:4 in the Decapolis # 5:20 Mt 4:25; Mk 7:31 how much Jesus had done for him, and they were all amazed. # 5:20 Rv 17:6
A Girl Restored and a Woman Healed
21When # 5:21–43 Mt 9:18–26; Lk 8:40–56 Jesus had crossed over again by boat # 5:21 Other mss omit by boat to the other side, a large crowd # 5:21 Mk 2:4 gathered around him while he was by the sea. 22One of the synagogue leaders, named Jairus, # 5:22 Lk 8:41 came, and when he saw Jesus, he fell at his feet # 5:22 Rv 19:10 23and begged him earnestly, “My little daughter is dying. Come and lay your hands on # 5:23 1Tm 5:22 her so that she can get well # 5:23 Or she might be saved,# 5:23 Mk 6:56 and live.” 24So Jesus went with him, and a large crowd was following and pressing against him.
25Now a woman suffering from bleeding # 5:25 Lk 8:43 for twelve years 26had endured # 5:26 Php 1:29 much under many doctors. # 5:26 Col 4:14 She had spent everything she had and was not helped at all. On the contrary, she became worse. 27Having heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched # 5:27 Jn 20:17 his clothing. # 5:27 Lk 19:36 28For she said, “If I just touch his clothes, I’ll be made well.” # 5:28 Mk 6:56; Ac 16:31 29Instantly her flow of blood ceased, and she sensed in her body that she was healed # 5:29 Lk 7:7 of her affliction.
30Immediately Jesus realized that power # 5:30 Lk 5:17; 6:19; 8:46 had gone out from him. He turned around in the crowd # 5:30 Mk 2:13 and said, “Who touched my clothes? ” # 5:30 Lk 19:36
31His disciples said to him, “You see the crowd pressing against you, and yet you say, ‘Who touched me? ’ ”
32But he was looking around to see who had done this. 33The woman, with fear and trembling, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell down # 5:33 Lk 8:47 before him, and told him the whole truth. # 5:33 Jn 14:6 34“Daughter,” he said to her, “your faith # 5:34 Mt 8:10 has saved you. # 5:34 Mt 9:22; Mk 6:56 Go in peace and be healed # 5:34 Ac 4:10 from your affliction.” # 5:34 Mk 5:29
35While he was still speaking, people came from the synagogue leader’s house and said, “Your daughter is dead. Why bother the teacher # 5:35 Mk 4:38; Eph 4:11 anymore? ”
36When Jesus overheard # 5:36 Or ignored what was said, he told the synagogue leader, “Don’t be afraid. # 5:36 Jn 6:20 Only believe.” 37He did not let anyone accompany him except Peter, # 5:37 Lk 6:14 James, # 5:37 Ac 12:2 and John, # 5:37 Jn 21:7 James’s brother. 38They came to the leader’s house, and he saw a commotion — people weeping and wailing loudly. 39He went in and said to them, “Why are you making a commotion and weeping? # 5:39 Mt 9:23 The child # 5:39 Lk 1:7 is not dead but asleep.” # 5:39 Mt 9:24 40They laughed at him, but he put them all outside. He took the child’s father, # 5:40 Col 3:21 mother, and those who were with him, and entered the place where the child was. 41Then he took the child # 5:41 Lk 1:7 by the hand and said to her, “Talitha koum” # 5:41 An Aramaic expression (which is translated, “Little girl, I say to you, get up” # 5:41 Mk 1:31; 2:11; 4:27,38; 9:27; 14:41–42). 42Immediately the girl got up # 5:42 Mk 9:27 and began to walk. # 5:42 Mt 11:5 (She was twelve years old.) At this they were utterly astounded. # 5:42 Mk 16:8; Ac 10:45 43Then he gave them strict orders that no one should know about this # 5:43 Mk 1:44; Lk 8:56 and told them to give her something to eat.

Markos 5
5
1And they came to the other side of the lake, to the country of the Gerasenes. 2And as soon as Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach stepped out of the sirah (boat), ofen ort (immediately), a man with a ruach hatumah from the kevarim (tombs) of the burial caves met him. 3This man had (his) dwelling among the kevarim. And no one could keep him tied any longer, even with sharsherot (chains, fetters); 4Because often he had been bound with shackles and the shackles had been torn apart by him, and no one had the koach (power) to subdue him. 5And constantly, yomam valailah (day and night), among the kevarim and in the mountains, he was crying out and beating himself with stones. 6And, having seen Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach from afar, he ran and fell down before him. 7And having cried out with a kol gadol (loud voice), he says, Mah lanu valach, Yehoshua, Ben HaElohim HaElyon? I implore you by Hashem, [do] not torment me. 8For Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach had been saying to him, Come out of the man, ruach hatumah (unclean spirit)! 9And Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach was questioning him, saying, What is your name? And he says to him, Legion [is] my name, for we are many! 10And he begged Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach again and again not to exorcise him and banish him from that place. 11Now there was a large herd of chazirim feeding nearby on the hillside. 12And they (the ruchot hatemeiot, the shedim) implored Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach, saying, Send us into the chazirim, so that we may go into them. 13And he permitted them. And having come out, the ruchot hatemeiot entered into the chazirim. And the herd of chazirim rushed down the slope into the lake, and there were about two thousand of them, and they were drowned in the lake.#5:13 Mic 7:19
14And the herdsmen feeding them fled and reported it in the village and in the sadot (fields), and the people came to see what had come to pass. 15And they come to Yehoshua, and they see the one that had been possessed by the shed sitting, clothed and in his right mind the very one having had the Legion! And they were afraid. 16And the edei reiyah (eyewitnesses) of what had happened to the man possessed by shedim and of what had happened to the chazirim reported it. 17Then they began to implore Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach to depart from their region. 18And as Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach was stepping into the sirah (boat), the one who had been possessed by shedim was imploring him that he might accompany him. 19And Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach did not permit him, but says to him, Go home to your people and report to them everything that Hashem has done for you and [that] Hashem had rachamim (mercy) upon you. 20And the man left and began to preach in the Decapolis everything that Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach had done for him, and everyone was amazed.
21And when he had crossed over again in the sirah (boat) to the other side, a large multitude gathered together to him, and he was beside the lake. 22And one of the Roshei Beit HaKnesset comes name of Ya'ir and, having seen Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach, he falls down at his feet, 23and he begs him earnestly saying, Biti (my daughter) is at the point of mavet. Come and put your hand on her that she may receive refuah and may live. 24And Moshiach went with Yair.
And a large multitude were following him and they were pressing against Moshiach. 25And [there was] an isha having a flow of dahm for twelve years.#5:25 Lv 15:25-30 26And having suffered much by many rofim (physicians) and having spent everything she had, instead of recovering, her condition deteriorated. 27And having heard about Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach, she came up behind him in the multitude, and touched his garment. 28For she was saying, If I may touch even the garment of Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach, I will receive refuah. 29And ofen ort the flow of her dahm was dried up and she felt in her basar that she has been given refuah from the shrekliche (terrible) machla (illness). 30And ofen ort Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach, having perceived within himself that gevurah (miraculous power) had gone forth from him, turned around in the crowd and said, Who touched my garments? 31And the talmidim of Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach were saying to him, You see the multitude pressing against you, and you say, Who touched me? 32And Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach was looking around to see the one having done this. 33Now the isha, BYIRAH (with fear) and BIRADAH (trembling), aware of what had happened to her, came and fell down before him and told him the emes (truth). 34And Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach said to her, Bat (Daughter), your emunah has brought you refuah (healing). Go in shalom and receive refuah from your machla.
35While Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach was still speaking, some came from the Rosh Beit HaKnesset, saying, Your yaldah is a nifteret (deceased person); are you still causing a shter (bother) for the rabbi? 36But Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach, having overheard what was being spoken, says to the Rosh Beit HaKnesset, Do not be afraid; only have emunah. 37And Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach did not permit anyone to follow after him, except Kefa and Ya'akov and Yochanan, the brother of Ya'akov. 38And they come into the bais of the Rosh Beit HaKnesset, and Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach beheld much commotion and weeping and loud wailing. 39And having entered, he says to them, Why are you distressed and weeping? The yaldah is not a nifteret but is only sleeping. 40And they began making leitzonus (mockery, fun) of him. But having put everyone out, Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach takes the Abba of the naarah (girl) and the Em and the ones with him, and goes into where the naarah was. 41And having grasped the hand of the naarah, Moshiach says to her, Talitha Koum, which, being translated, means Little girl, to you I say, arise! 42And ofen ort the naarah got up and she was walking around. She was twelve years old. And ofen ort they were amazed with great wonder. 43And he gave orders to them earnestly that no one should have daas of this. And Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach said to give her some okhel (food).
