2 Corinthians 7

1So then, dear friends, since we have these promises, # 7:1 Gn 12:7 let us cleanse ourselves from every impurity of the flesh and spirit, # 7:1 Ps 51:12 bringing holiness to completion # 7:1 Or spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. # 7:1 Ps 147:11; Pr 1:7; Rv 14:7
Joy and Repentance
2Make room for us in your hearts. We have wronged no one, corrupted # 7:2 1Co 3:17; 15:33; 2Co 11:3; Eph 4:22; 2Pt 2:12; Jd 10; Rv 19:2 no one, taken advantage of no one. 3I don’t say this to condemn you, since I have already said that you are in our hearts, to die together and to live together. 4I am very frank with you; I have great pride in you. I am filled with encouragement; I am overflowing with joy in all our afflictions.
5In fact, when we came into Macedonia, # 7:5 Ac 16:9 we # 7:5 Lit our flesh had no rest. Instead, we were troubled in every way: conflicts # 7:5 Jms 4:1; Ti 3:9 on the outside, fears # 7:5 Jn 7:13; Ac 27:29 within. 6But God, who comforts the downcast, # 7:6 Mt 11:29 comforted us by the arrival of Titus, 7and not only by his arrival but also by the comfort he received from you. He told us about your deep longing, your sorrow, and your zeal # 7:7 Nm 25:13 for me, so that I rejoiced even more. 8For even if I grieved you with my letter, # 7:8 2Co 2:2,4 I don’t regret it. And if I regretted it — since I saw that the letter grieved you, yet only for a while — 9I now rejoice, not because you were grieved, but because your grief led to repentance. For you were grieved as God willed, so that you didn’t experience any loss from us. 10For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret, but worldly grief produces death. # 7:10 Mt 10:21; Jn 8:51; Php 3:10 11For consider how much diligence this very thing — this grieving as God wills — has produced in you: what a desire to clear yourselves, what indignation, what fear, what deep longing, what zeal, what justice! In every way you showed yourselves to be pure # 7:11 Php 4:8 in this matter. 12So even though I wrote to you, it was not because of the one who did wrong, or because of the one who was wronged, but in order that your devotion to us might be made plain to you in the sight of God. 13For this reason we have been comforted.
In addition to our own comfort, we rejoiced even more over the joy Titus # 7:13 Ti 1:4 had, because his spirit was refreshed by all of you. 14For if I have made any boast to him about you, I have not been disappointed; but as I have spoken everything to you in truth, # 7:14 Ps 119:142; Jn 8:14; 14:6; 2Co 11:10; 1Jn 5:20; 3Jn 3 so our boasting to Titus has also turned out to be the truth. 15And his affection toward you is even greater as he remembers the obedience of all of you, and how you received him with fear and trembling. 16I rejoice that I have complete confidence in you.

1Therefore, having these havtachot (promises), Chaverim, let us submit to his tahorah, cleansing ourselves from every defilement of basar and ruach, perfecting kedushah (holiness) in yirat Shomayim.
2In your levavot make a cheder for us; we wronged no one, we ruined no one, we exploited no one.#7:2 2C 12:17 3I do not say this to bring you under harsha'ah, for I have said before that you are in our levavot#7:3 2C 6:11-12; Pp 1:7 whether to die with you or to live with you.#7:3 2Sm 15:21 4I have much ometz lev (boldness) and confidence toward you. I glory much on your behalf. I have been filled with chozek (strength). I am filled to overflowing with simcha at all of our tzoros.
5For indeed when we had come into Macedonia#7:5 Ac 20:1-2; 2C 2:13 we had no physical mano'ach (rest) but we had tzoros everywhere: battles on the outside, fears inside.#7:5 Dt 32:25 6But Hashem who encourages the lowly, encouraged us#7:6 Isa 49:13; 2C 1:3-4 by the coming of Titos; 7And not only by the coming of him, but also by the encouragement by which he was encouraged over you, reporting to us your longing, your mourning, your kanous (zeal) for me, so that it caused me to have even more simcha. 8Because if indeed I caused you agmat nefesh (grief) by the iggeret, I do not regret it, though I did regret it, but I see that that iggeret grieved you only briefly.#7:8 2C 2:4 9Now I have simcha, not that you had agmat nefesh, but that your grief brought you to teshuva, for your agmat nefesh was in Hashem, so that by us you suffered in nothing.
10For the agmat nefesh that is according to Hashem produces teshuva to Yeshu'at Eloheinu, not to be regretted, but the agmat nefesh of the Olam Hazeh produces mavet.#7:10 Mt 27:3-5; MJ 12:17 11For, hinei, see what zerizut (diligence) this agmat nefesh of Hashem has produced in you, what defense, what indignation, what yirat Shomayim, what longing, what kanous (zeal), what onesh (punishment)! At every point you proved yourselves to be without ashma (guilt) in the matter. 12Then though I wrote an iggeret to you, it was not for the sake of the one having done hara'ah (the evil), nor for the sake of the one who was beleidikt (offended), but for the sake of your kanous (zeal) for us becoming manifest to you before Hashem. 13In this we have chozek (strength).
But in addition to our encouragement, we had still more simcha at the simcha of Titos, because his neshamah has been set at rest by all of you; 14Because if I have been somewhat boastful about you Corinthians to Titos, I was in this not put to shame, but just as everything we said to you is HaEmes, so also our boasting to Titos has proven true as well. 15And his lev (heart) goes out to you, all the more as he has zikaron of the mishma'at (obedience) of all of you#7:15 2C 2:9 as you received him B'YIRAH (with fear) and BIRA'DAH (trembling).#7:15 Ps 2:11 16I have simcha that in everything I have confidence in you.
