2 Corinthians 1

Greeting
1Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by God’s will,#1Co 1:1; Eph 1:1; Col 1:1; 2Tm 1:1 and Timothy#1Th 3:2; 1Tm 1:2 our#1:1 Lit the brother:
To the church of God at Corinth,#1Co 1:2 with all the saints who are throughout Achaia.#Ac 18:12; Php 1:1
2Grace to you and peace#Lk 12:51; Rm 1:7; 2Tm 1:2; 3Jn 14 from God our Father#Mt 5:16; 11:27; Lk 11:13; Jn 8:42; Eph 5:20 and the Lord Jesus Christ.
The God of Comfort
3Blessed be#Mk 14:61 the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies#Heb 10:28 and the God of all comfort.#Lk 2:25 4He comforts us in all our affliction,#1:4 Or trouble, or tribulation, or trials, or oppression so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any kind of affliction, through the comfort we ourselves receive from God. 5For just as the sufferings#Gl 5:24; Php 3:10 of Christ#Rm 8:17; 2Co 4:10; Gl 6:17; Php 3:10; Col 1:24 overflow to us, so also through Christ our comfort overflows.#Php 1:29 6If we are afflicted,#Heb 11:37 it is for your comfort and salvation. If we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which produces in you patient endurance of the same sufferings that we suffer.#Php 1:29 7And our hope#1Th 1:3 for you is firm, because we know that as you share#Phm 17 in the sufferings, so you will also share in the comfort.
8We don’t want you to be unaware, brothers and sisters, of our affliction that took place in Asia.#Ac 6:9 We were completely overwhelmed — beyond our strength#Ac 8:10; 1Co 15:24; Eph 1:21; 1Pt 3:22 — so that we even despaired#2Co 4:8 of life itself. 9Indeed, we felt that we had received the sentence of death, so that we would not trust in ourselves but in God#Ps 25:2; 26:1; Jr 17:5–7; Lk 18:9 who raises#Mk 9:27; Jn 2:19 the dead. 10He has delivered#Mt 27:43 us from such a terrible death,#Mt 10:21; Jn 8:51; Php 3:10 and he will deliver us. We have put our hope in him that he will deliver us again 11while you join in helping us by your prayers. Then many will give thanks on our#1:11 Other mss read your behalf for the gift that came to us through the prayers of many.
A Clear Conscience
12Indeed, this is our boast: The testimony#1Tm 2:6 of our conscience#Heb 13:18 is that we have conducted ourselves in the world, and especially toward you, with godly sincerity and purity, not by human wisdom#Pr 3:19; 1Co 1:21 but by God’s grace.#Ac 23:1; 2Co 4:2; 5:12; 1Th 2:10 13For we are writing nothing to you other than what you can read and also understand. I hope you will understand completely — 14just as you have partially understood us — that we are your reason for pride,#Rm 2:17; Gl 6:4 just as you also are ours#2Co 9:3; Php 2:16; 4:1; 1Th 2:19–20 in the day of our#1:14 Other mss omit our Lord Jesus.#Php 1:6
A Visit Postponed
15Because of this confidence, I planned to come to you first,#Ac 18:1–18; 1Co 4:19 so that you could have a second benefit,#1:15 Other mss read a second joy 16and to visit you on my way to Macedonia,#Ac 16:9 and then come to you again from Macedonia and be helped by you#Ac 20:38 on my journey#Ac 19:21; 1Co 16:5–7 to Judea.#Lk 1:5 17Now when I planned this, was I of two minds? Or what I plan, do I plan in a purely human#1:17 Or a worldly, or a fleshly, or a selfish#Php 3:3; Col 3:22 way so that I say “Yes, yes” and “No, no” at the same time? 18As God is faithful,#Nm 23:19 our message to you is not “Yes and no.” 19For the Son of God,#Jn 5:19; Heb 1:2 Jesus Christ, whom we proclaimed among you — Silvanus,#1:19 Or Silas; Ac 15:22–32; 16:19–40; 17:1–16#1Th 1:1 Timothy, and I — did not become “Yes and no.” On the contrary, in him it is always “Yes.”#Heb 13:8 20For every one of God’s promises#Gn 12:7 is “Yes” in him. Therefore, through him we also say “Amen”#Ps 72:19; Rv 22:21 to the glory of God.#Mk 10:37; Lk 9:32; Jn 17:24; 2Co 3:18; 2Pt 3:18 21Now it is God who strengthens us together with you in Christ, and who has anointed#Lk 4:18; 1Jn 2:20 us. 22He has also put his seal on us and given us the Spirit in our hearts#Jms 4:5 as a down payment.#Eph 1:14
23I call on God as a witness,#Rm 1:9; Php 1:8; Heb 12:1 on my life, that it was to spare you that I did not come to Corinth.#1Co 4:21; 2Co 13:2,10 24I do not mean that we lord it over your faith, but we are workers with you for your joy, because you stand firm in your#Pr 24:16 faith.

Qorintiyim Bĕt (2 Corinthians) 1
1
1Sha’ul, an emissary of יהושע Messiah, by the desire of Elohim, and Timotiyos the brother, to the assembly of Elohim that is at Corinth, with all the set-apart ones who are in all Achaia:
2Favour to you and peace from Elohim our Father and the Master יהושע Messiah.
3Blessed be the Elohim and Father of our Master יהושע Messiah, the Father of compassion and Elohim of all comfort,
4who is comforting us in all our pressure, enabling us to comfort those who are in every pressure, through the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by Elohim.
5Because, as the sufferings of Messiah overflow in us, so our comfort also overflows through Messiah.
6And if we suffer pressure, it is for your comfort and deliverance, being worked out in enduring the same sufferings which we also suffer. If we are comforted, it is for your comfort and deliverance.
7And our expectation for you is steadfast, because we know that as you are sharing in the sufferings – so also in the comfort.
8For we do not wish you to be ignorant, brothers, of our pressure which came to us in Asia, that we were weighed down, exceedingly,#See 2Cor. 4:8, 9; 2Cor. 4:17 beyond ability, so that we despaired even of life.
9Indeed, we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves but in Elohim who raises the dead,
10who rescued us from so great a death, and does rescue, in whom we trust that He shall still rescue us,
11you also helping together in prayer for us, that thanks shall be given by many on our behalf for the favour bestowed upon us through many.
12For our boasting is this: the witness of our conscience that we behaved ourselves in the world in simplicity and sincerity of Elohim, not in fleshly wisdom but in the favour of Elohim, and much more toward you.
13For we are not writing any other matters to you than what you read or understand. Now I trust you shall understand, even to the end,
14as also you have understood us in part, that we are your boast as you also are ours, in the day of the Master יהושע.
15And relying on this I intended to come to you before, that you might twice receive a favour,
16and to pass your way into Makedonia, and again from Makedonia come to you, and to be sent by you on my way to Yehuḏah.
17Since I intended this, did I do it lightly? Or what I plan, do I plan according to the flesh, that with me there should be Yes, Yes, and No, No?
18But Elohim is trustworthy, that our word to you was not Yes and No.
19For the Son of Elohim, יהושע Messiah, who was proclaimed among you by us – by me, Silas, and Timotiyos – was not Yes and No, but in Him was Yes.
20For as many promises as are of Elohim, in Him they are Yes, and in Him Amĕn, to the esteem of Elohim through us.
21But He who establishes us with you in Messiah and has anointed us is Elohim,
22who also sealed us, and gave the Spirit in our hearts as a pledge.
23And I call Elohim as witness against my being, that to spare you I came no more to Corinth.
24Not that we rule over your belief, but we are fellow workers for your joy, for you stand by belief.
