Psalms 34
34
Praise God Who Judges and Saves
David’s song from the time he acted crazy so Abimelech would send him away. And David did leave.
1I will praise the Lord at all times.
His praise is always on my lips.
2My whole being praises the Lord.
The poor will hear and be glad.
3Tell the greatness of the Lord with me.
Let us praise his name together.
4I asked the Lord for help, and he answered me.
He saved me from all that I feared.
5Those who go to him for help are happy.
They are never disgraced.
6This poor man called, and the Lord heard him.
The Lord saved him from all his troubles.
7The Lord saves those who fear him.
His angel camps around them.
8Examine and see how good the Lord is.
Happy is the person who trusts the Lord.
9People who belong to the Lord, fear him!
Those who fear him will have everything they need.
10Even lions may become weak and hungry.
But those people who go to the Lord for help will have every good thing.
11Children, come and listen to me.
I will teach you to worship the Lord.
12You must do these things
to enjoy life and have many happy days.
13You must not say evil things.
You must not tell lies.
14Stop doing evil and do good.
Look for peace and work for it.
15The Lord sees the good people.
He listens to their prayers.
16But the Lord is against those who do evil.
He makes the world forget them.
17The Lord hears good people when they cry out to him.
He saves them from all their troubles.
18The Lord is close to the brokenhearted.
He saves those whose spirits have been crushed.
19People who do what is right may have many problems.
But the Lord will solve them all.
20He will protect their very bones.
Not one of them will be broken.
21Evil will kill the wicked people.
Those who hate good people will be judged guilty.
22But the Lord saves his servants’ lives.
No one who trusts him will be judged guilty.

Psalms 34
34
A psalm of David concerning the time he pretended to be mad in front of Abimelech who then sent him away.
1I will always bless the Lord; my mouth will continually praise him.
2From the bottom of my heart I am proud of the Lord; those who are humble will hear and be happy.
3Glorify God with me; together let's honor his reputation.
4I asked the Lord for help, and he answered me. He set me free from all my fears.
5The faces of those who look to him will shine with joy; they will never be downcast with shame.
6This poor man cried out, and the Lord heard me, and saved me from all my troubles.
7The angel of the Lord stands guard over all those who honor him, keeping them safe.
8Taste, and you will see that the Lord is good! How happy are those who trust in his protection!#34:8. Literally, “take refuge in him.”
9Show your reverence for the Lord, you who are his holy people, for those who respect him have everything they need.
10Lions may grow weak and hungry, but those who trust in the Lord have all that is good.
11Children, listen to me! I will teach you how to respect the Lord.
12Who of you wants to live a long and happy life?
13Then don't let your tongue speak evil, or your lips tell lies.
14Reject what is evil, do what is good. Look for peace, and work to make it a reality.
15The Lord watches over those who do right, and he hears when they cry for help.
16The Lord sets himself against those who do evil. He will wipe out even the memory of them from the earth.
17But when his people#34:17. Implied. call out for help, he hears them and rescues them from all their troubles.
18The Lord is close beside those who are broken-hearted; he saves those whose spirits are crushed.
19Those who do right have many problems, but the Lord solves all of them.
20He keeps them safe—not a single one of their bones will be broken.
21Evil kills the wicked. Those who hate good people will suffer for their wrongdoing.
22The Lord saves the lives of his servants. Those who trust in his protection will not suffer for their wrongdoings.
